G3X Touch: on-screen gear, flap, and trim indications

Recommended Posts

Curious, has anyone been able to get Garmin G3X Touch to display flap, trim, and gear position in their K model Mooney (or any other certified model)? I'm sure it would take some LVDTs, LVITs, or potentiometers.

I'm doing a complete panel upgrade and would love to kill all of those analog indicators on the center column.

Anyone with experience or thoughts how to make it happen?

The certified version can do things not within its original scope. I know folks have put video inputs on a Beech A36 as a "minor deviation" during install (or "minor alteration" to an already installed system) of a G3X.

Would trim, flap, cowl flap, gear position indication not also be minor deviations? (Like this screenshot from an Piper Malibu, showing gear and trim positions)

Zoomed in on the trim/flap indication

The GAD 27 is used to supply power to the G3X during starting brownout in 14V systems and to provide wig-wag light functions in 14V and 28V systems. That’s all the STC allows for a certified installation. If you want to use some feature from the experimental version that is not in the STC, then you have to find some other approval means.
