Grandmas Flying Couch Posted March 10, 2020 Report Posted March 10, 2020 (edited) Hello, on my M20F these appear to be altered or perhaps wrong, I can't help but think there is extra drag here, what do you all think? Edited March 10, 2020 by Grandmas Flying Couch Quote
McMooney Posted March 10, 2020 Report Posted March 10, 2020 My E is the same way thinking about asking my ia/ap to come up with something to close the gap Quote

Can't be good. Looks like mine were shortened looking in the parts manual they look like they have a version that closes the gap Edited March 10, 2020 by Grandmas Flying Couch Quote
RLCarter Posted March 10, 2020 Report Posted March 10, 2020 Over the years I think they get bent and don't fit as well as they should. Over the years I have "tweaked" mine to fit better, Quote
Grandmas Flying Couch Posted March 10, 2020 Author Report Posted March 10, 2020 Looks like I have the bottom one, but the top one offers more coverage and is listed in my parts manual of 67 Quote
Grandmas Flying Couch Posted March 11, 2020 Author Report Posted March 11, 2020 This is the area I'm talking about not the aero mods. 1 Quote
carusoam Posted March 11, 2020 Report Posted March 11, 2020 Looks like a lot of room for improvement there... Any idea what the two holes are for on it’s leading edge? Looks like something used to be attached... An Easy research project... walk down the ramp looking at any more modern Mooney or another one with the same flap hinge covers to see what gets added in there... Expect something can close over the open space and still allow the proper flap movement... At 150kias there is probably a bit of force on that... Best regards, -a- Quote

Best regards, -a- Lol, I don't know why I didn't think of walking down the ramp! I kept trying to find pics online. There are a few at my KGYR home base. I'll have to sneak a peak under some of the ladies at the T-Shades, after that I'll have to find a Mooney and find what covers that gap. Thanks! 2 Quote
Ragsf15e Posted March 11, 2020 Report Posted March 11, 2020 Mine look just about exactly the same (1968 F) If you cover them up and gain 10kts, please post about it! Quote

I noticed variations in those wing panels I may buy the other variant, ensure it doesn't get close to the flaps and install them since they are listed in the parts manual. I also will loosen the hardware and see if I can tweak it so the end of the gap is higher than the leading edge of the hole. Quote
EricJ Posted March 11, 2020 Report Posted March 11, 2020 A trip through the IPC might be revealing as well. 1 Quote

Thanks! With 3 or 4 hours of messing around will probably pick up 1-3 kts. So far we have gotten the plane from 140 kts true to 148 to 150 true. She was flying sideways when I got her. Quote
