squeaky.stow Posted January 23, 2020 Report Posted January 23, 2020 My maintenance guy wants to buy a set of shock disk compression tools. Does anyone still sell these? Quote
carusoam Posted January 23, 2020 Report Posted January 23, 2020 There is a thread around here somewhere that is either... 1) Alan selling a set of tools... or 2) 99other MSers explaining the art of compressing the donuts without the special tools... Unfortunately, 3) The aviation toolbox guys couldn’t make a go of the tool rental business and closed their shop... 4) The nose wheel is probably the more challenging of the three... there is a thread that shows how to build a donut compressor using a bottle jack and some mechanical skills... 5) Then there is the real way... call Lasar, place an order... they are Mooney parts... 6) Then there is the next set of tools... the ones used for setting up the overcenter forces... Make sure you have the right tools and procedures... getting this wrong can leave a disappointing mark on the runway... PP thoughts only, not a mechanic... Best regards, -a- Quote
Yetti Posted January 23, 2020 Report Posted January 23, 2020 The thread you seek. More importantly what is the best price on discs? 1 Quote
RobertGary1 Posted January 28, 2020 Report Posted January 28, 2020 Apparently you only need the tool for the nose. For the mains just get a couple fat guys to sit on the wing. -Robert 1 Quote
cliffy Posted January 28, 2020 Report Posted January 28, 2020 The mains can be done by jacking the airplane, setting it on 4 stacked 2X8s 3' long for height (all 3 wheels) Jack one main enough to pull out the 2X8s and carefully disassemble the main gear (take the tire off also) Lower the gear knee to remove the donuts and replace. Assemble the gear with tire and carefully lower onto the 2X8s to compress the donuts, have another person carefully press down on the wing to compress just enough to get the cross bolt in on the donut collar. Repeat as necessary. Nose gear get the tool 1 1 Quote
