Planegary Posted April 28, 2019 Report Posted April 28, 2019 I was talking to a buddy that used to have a Mooney and he was singing the praises of the Odyssey battery over the Concorde. Anybody else have any input? I am not needing one right now but wanted this information for future use so I will be informed when the time arises Quote
Andy95W Posted April 28, 2019 Report Posted April 28, 2019 Last I heard, only one Odyssey battery is PMAed, and it requires a new battery box, STC, and field approval. The Concorde is a great battery, lasts a long time, and just drops in with a logbook entry. 4 Quote
StevenL757 Posted April 28, 2019 Report Posted April 28, 2019 Agree. As far as the Odyssey? Caveat emptor. There’s a reason the Concordes cost - and last - as long as they do. Quote
Guest Posted April 28, 2019 Report Posted April 28, 2019 It’s too bad that Odyssey batteries aren’t approved, the one in my RV4 is half the price of an equivalent Concord battery, and in my experience lasts just as long. Clarence Quote
carusoam Posted April 28, 2019 Report Posted April 28, 2019 Lots of reviews for odyssey... Few Mooney related... https://mooneyspace.com/search/?&q=Odyssey battery&search_and_or=and&sortby=relevancy Looks like a change of battery box is needed... Making a switch an economic challenge... exM20K Posted April 29, 2019 Report Posted April 29, 2019 These guys are delivering Lithiom ion batteries which are approx half the weight of the Concords in my Acclaim. Trouble is: the two heavy batteries serve as ballast, so cutting their weight would mean putting in Charlie weights in the tail. Less weight because of the arm, of course, but no way to recover the full 30 ish pounds of weight. https://www.truebluepowerusa.com/aviation-products/advanced-lithium-ion-batteries/ Quote
quik flite Posted April 29, 2019 Report Posted April 29, 2019 I’ve had both in different airplanes They are both excellent in my opinion Quote
bradp Posted April 29, 2019 Report Posted April 29, 2019 I think I’m finally heading toward a new concord - I’ve had one rolling for 7 years strong no minder. Quote
Planegary Posted April 29, 2019 Author Report Posted April 29, 2019 All good information. Glad you guys are sharing your knowledge Quote
