I finished up my CFI renewal and noticed on their website my TSA training was expiring. Almost forgot. Curious how other people remember to do this annual training. I wonder if anyone has been busted for being out of currency.

I'm glad they emphasized it on mine too.  I used to be based at airports that required it, so had automatic reminders....no longer.  Not sure how they would catch you unless you had a student go rogue, but it is one more thing to try to remember with my brain at capacity.  I keep saying I will get a whiteboard for my home office for all of these things....

I have a recurring Google calendar event set up, and they email me when it's due. Every year I go, "what the heck is that? ..... Oh, right, the TSA thing..."

I know this is an annual requirement for CFIs but lets face it, its the same stuff for the last 10 years. They should make this a every 2 year event an just include it within our CFI renewal. That would ease the burden a bit...

Is the TSA thing mature already?  No changes year to year?

Sounds like something AOPA could get cost reduction or simplification for, for their members...

Legal hurdles and AOPA go well together...

The AOPA course is free - I suspect they are all free. It's definitely mature - most of this stuff was published 2003ish, though they do tweak the content from time to time.

I really have no idea why the annual requirement or the standalone course. Seems like it would be better if they just synced with the biannual instructor certificate renewal.

My sense is that they're primarily concerned with US flight schools understanding requirements for training foreign pilots.

aopa has the ability to do two things....

1) help with training...

2) help with regulation, and changes to these regulations...

Could take a year or three....

If it makes sense, we can bring it to their attention.

We know a couple of people (MSers) at AOPA.
