Hi all,

I see some Ovation3's with TKS (fiki) and some without.  I'm wondering if the ones that are available withouth FIKI TKS are able to be retrofitted with the TKS.  If so...

  • what is the cost to add FIKI TKS on 2007ish model?
  • was the TKS (when added new as an option) added by Mooney at the mooney factory or did the TKS people actually install it?
  • does the retrofit TKS look as nice/clean of a job as the "new from factory TKS"?

Thanks,

Dico

I understand the cost for FIKI TKS on a Mooney to be in the neighborhood of $40k.  Can't really address the other questions, I'm afraid.

We installed TKS at the factory as an option. Yes to your last question. The folks at CAV Aerospace can install the TKS system.

It does indeed work,I have noticed the same airspeed penalty as Mike, about 7ish with that # better at altitudes over 17k,than the a/s loss is much smaller 3 or so according to my instrumentation.Total capacity at just over 6 gals is good for about 1.5 hr at max flow.Fluid cost if I buy 5gal jugs runs about 80 bucks shipped.I generally keep at least 2 gal aboard and top off if I am flying in icing conditions, which this winter is most of the time. One thing not mentioned...the titanium leading edge panels very "cool" looking but more importantly do not erode like painted leading edges in moderate rain.sinc kp couch

Maritime flying? You'll want TKS. The way I figure it, a 5-6 kt TAS airspeed hit is minimal, compared to the 185 kt TAS hit you take by being forced to stay on the ground when there is icing in the forecast.
