N81FM Posted July 16, 2017 Report Posted July 16, 2017 Hello, The hobbs on my Ovation (1999 model) doesn't work anymore. Can anyone tell me what is the wiring used for this instrument and how to repair it. Many thanks Jean-Claude Quote
carusoam Posted July 16, 2017 Report Posted July 16, 2017 There is a thread around here that covers this discussion... as the power switch to the engine hour clock on the back wall seems to have changed over the years. The POH has a line item that mentions what switches the current on or off. 1) it could be an oil pressure switch that captures the engine running time... (my firm belief prior to these conversations) 2) it could be an airspeed switch that captures the airplane's actual flying time... 3) it probably isn't the gear switch. That would possibly include many hours of being up on jacks... 4) It may be the G1000 engine monitor has this data being collected. 5) We are talking about the clock that is mounted on the wall back by the batteries, right? My memory for this detail faded a bit a while ago. Best regards, -a- Quote
co2bruce Posted July 17, 2017 Report Posted July 17, 2017 We have a 1999 Eagle and was told its signal runs through the Moritz gauges. We ended up replacing the Hobbs and bypassing the Moritz. It runs off our master. Yours may be different. Quote
carusoam Posted July 17, 2017 Report Posted July 17, 2017 @Deb shared the memory of the thread I mentioned above... This may have some interesting detail to How flight hours get measured, depending on the equipment mounted in your plane. O1 Moritz gauges G1000 system Tach based hour meter airspeed switch oil pressure switch flight timer on the back wall It appears that starting in the '90s the ability to measure flight hours improved, but was not perfected...yet. Thanks to Dave, for the reminder... Best regards, -a- Quote
