TheTurtle Posted June 14, 2017 Report Posted June 14, 2017 Anybody done cam locks on the instrument access panels? Decowling would take less than half the time without the 50 screws there. A couple of the holes where the overlap cover connects the left and right side are wallowed out as well so I'm thinking I'm going to have to put some nutplates there at some point anyway Quote
kpaul Posted June 15, 2017 Report Posted June 15, 2017 I don't think you can get the same, hopefully, water tight seal using cam locks as you do with the screws. Quote
TheTurtle Posted June 15, 2017 Author Report Posted June 15, 2017 my toes got wet last time i flew in rain so not sure its doing anything anyway. After that I did put some weather stripping under those panels but after putting in a $8k transponder I just avoid rain now. Not going to chance it Quote
Yetti Posted June 16, 2017 Report Posted June 16, 2017 first step it so replace that factory foam stuff. I used some 1/2" round foam "expansion crack filler" and contact cement sitting in the rain. Camlocks would hold water till it dripped through. The battery access cam locks might be better at keeping water out. Quote
Heloman Posted June 16, 2017 Report Posted June 16, 2017 Someone on here said they used plumbers putty, seemed like a good idea so I've been using it, works great, cleans out super easy and I change it at annual. When I've removed the covers between annuals, I've reformed it a little so the cover can "re-squash" it, to make a new seal. 1 Quote
