RLCarter Posted April 29, 2017 Report Posted April 29, 2017 Just got these sent to me by a buddy in the D.C. area, this mess wasn't there 4 months ago. He parks on the ramp and uses a FULL set of covers, plugs everywhere and they still found their way in. No damage, cleaned out the mess, corrosion-X'd everything as a precaution. Thought I'd share with the group what can happen in a short while. Quote
AZM20C Posted April 29, 2017 Report Posted April 29, 2017 That looks just like a Pack Rat or Wood Rat's nest to me. 1 Quote

thinwing Posted April 29, 2017 Report Posted April 29, 2017 Means his push rod boots are chewed up or gone...the problem is rat urine is corrosive... Quote

In the past I have owned three airplanes which were kept outside, and I never saw anything like this. Did he not fly for a four month period? Thanks, Fernando Quote
RLCarter Posted April 30, 2017 Author Report Posted April 30, 2017 Fernando, i think he is at Tipton, the plane doesn't sit, he flies all the time. Quote
prflyer Posted April 30, 2017 Report Posted April 30, 2017 Thanks. I was based there a long time for a short period of time. Very strange, but happy I have a hangar now. Quote

Hangers don't slow mice down in fact your odds are probably better getting mice in a hanger as opposed to the ramp. Especially true if you or one of your neighbors leaves any food around. 2 Quote
LANCECASPER Posted April 30, 2017 Report Posted April 30, 2017 Foolishly back in 2009 I left cheese and crackers in my flight bag on the front seat of a M20M I owned, which I kept in a hangar at Stinson in San Antonio. Not only did the rodent eat the cheese and crackers but some of my front seat upholstery as well. Thankfully an upholstery shop used the leather on the map pocket in the back to splice in a square on the seat and make it unnoticeable. Quote

I am told that the rodent problem is widespread in this area this year. They are eating my poison faster than I can buy it, and I'm trapping them daily. Quote
LANCECASPER Posted April 30, 2017 Report Posted April 30, 2017 Don, I'll rent you my cat for your hangar. 2 Quote
RLCarter Posted April 30, 2017 Author Report Posted April 30, 2017 The Coyotes and Owls have been keeping things in check, along with I keep all 11 hangars in our row mowed so it's harder for them to hide. The next row over isn't as well cared for so its a good place for the mice and rats to hang out.... away from hangar Quote
Marauder Posted April 30, 2017 Report Posted April 30, 2017 Don, I'll rent you my cat for your hangar. You call that a cat? Now this is a CAT. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk Pro 3 Quote
