  1. They said that it was an unassigned parking spot and some people think an empty spot means anyone can park there.
  2. The covered parking at KFFZ is getting a makeover. The airport official told me today that everything is being moved out, including this Mooney. If anyone knows this guy, let him know. The official could not locate the owner. They are starting repainting tomorrow 4-8-18. It is N6524U.
  3. FYI, I have a 1974 M20C Ranger. There are some rotund and burly relatives in my family. We found this belt extension works great in our plane.
  4. That is crazy. If mine ever breaks I think I would try using a paint mixing stick. They are free at Home Depot.
  5. Just had mine sealed. That fixed the slight smell of gas that I had been searching for.
  6. What a great experience. Congratulations. I had a similar experience last year in my M20C, 250 total hrs., Alabama to Arizona, my flight instructor made the trip with me. I got a lot of hood time. Enjoy. Be safe.
  7. I took my M20C in for an annual Dec.26. Last week was the first time I was able to fly it since. I still haven’t received the bill. I decided that I better go flying because once I get the bill I may not be able to afford the fuel. One of my big concerns was radio noise when I am in close proximity to the airport. I am not sure all that was done just yet but I was told that they put new connectors in the cabin ceiling. Not only did they not fix the radio noise but as soon as I took off, the tower said I was not showing altitude and told me to squawk 1200 on my almost new GTX345. Also, traffic no longer shows on the GNS530W or ForeFlight on the iPad. I was connected via Bluetooth. The avionics guy at the shop has since moved to another state. I guess I would like some ideas on where or what I should look for or do next. Any ideas would be welcomed. Thanks.
  8. Great story ragedracer. There is nothing better than spending quality time with family and making memories. I hope to meet you sometime at KFFZ. My M20C based there. Do you have trouble switching tanks with your shoulder harness? I can’t reach the floor with my shoulder harness snug.
  9. I am just finishing my first annual inspection. I spent two hours last week with my AI going through the log books. It seems the previous owner’s method for maintaining the log books was to keep everything. I even found brochures on hotels nestled in the log books. I’m not sure what relevance that has with the last time my mags were overhauled. Anyway, I am trying to stream line things a little. Has anyone tried using any aircraft maintenance software? I found one in particular called CompuTrak. Before I purchased it, I wanted to run it by everyone here to see if you have any feedback on it.
  10. She’s a beauty. Treat her right, and congrats!
  11. My dog goes where I go or I don’t go. Usually.
  12. Forbes Best States for Business Rankings, Employment Growth (Bureau of Labor Statistics numbers), GDP Growth Rate, Mercatus State Fiscal Rankings (George Mason University), etc., when did they get into the moving business?

  14. My Mooney is currently at Falcon Executive Aviation, at Falcon Field (KFFZ) undergoing an annual. They have worked on my Mooney on several occasions since I purchased the plane, including a few minor squawks and a lot of avionics upgrades. The entire service department seems very knowledgeable. They are very thorough, professional and friendly. I have no complaints. Give Bruce a call in the service department. Here’s their website: http://www.falconaviation.com/
  15. Almost sounds like the state thinks they own the air you fly in.
  16. I love my Brompton. It’s not a mountain bike but it fits behind the back seat of my M20C perfectly. It folds up much smaller than the Montague and it folds and unfolds in just a few seconds. My local bike shop sells a number of brands including the Brompton and Montague. The shop owner talked me out of the Montague in favor of the Brompton, for what I was looking for in a bike. With the 6 speed version it will climb very steep grades with ease. It’s great on streets and dirt roads but for real off road mountain biking, not so much. It’s great if you are at a small airport and want to ride a few miles into town or go sightseeing. Just my giving you my two cents.
  17. Early this year I purchased my insurance through AOPA. They were the best price for me at the time. I researched 4 or 5 companies. They were a little less than Falcon. It was for a 1974 M20C. $1788/yr. I had 250 hrs. total, and I think almost exactly 50 hrs in a complex AC, no instrument rating, and no previous Mooney time. I love my Mooney. Do your research and good luck to you.
  18. The noise started before the new equipment was installed. My instructor and I encountered the noise in Kansas back in April. Since then I have had the GNS530 sent to Garmin. They did a WAAS upgrade on it. I have replaced the transponder with a new GTX345 along with an altitude encoder/42K dual RS232 outputs. I also replaced the audio panel with a new PS Engineering PMA 8000BT. My COM 2 is an old Garmin SL40. It was not replaced. When the noise starts it seems to not matter if you are on COM 1 or COM 2. The avionics technician bench tested the SL40 and GNS530 (before it was sent in for the WAAS upgrade) for noise. The new USB port is made by True Blue Power TA202 Series. I had hoped this would solve the radio noise. Now, I not only still have radio noise but I also have the error messages popping up. I will try the solutions you have suggested as soon as I can find the time. Too many things going on for the next couple of days. I really appreciate everyone's input. I think I will start with the settings page as you suggested "Piloto". The iPad being plugged in is also something I will look at as "takair" said. "Carusoam" and "cbarry", talked about the RS232 #2 connection. That is the most consistent error message I get. Maybe it just needs reseating as suggested. Thanks Everyone.
  19. I have a problem that I think is related to the above described problem. I get loud noise in the radio. The top left (active frequency) COM window on the GNS530W displays Rx (receiving) just to the right of the active frequency. It may be coincidence but I seem to always in close proximity to an airport. This almost unbearably loud noise seems to coincide with the error messages described earlier. I made a 3 min video of the noise and put it on my YouTube channel. Here is the link: I am determined to get to the bottom of this. You guys have amazing knowledge about this stuff. Thanks.
  20. Don't forget to watch out for the geeses fly south this fall. Do we fly Mooneys or Moon-eye?
  21. Thank you everyone. I will take your suggestions and see if that fixes the problem. You guys are great.
  22. I get these error messages typically 3 or 4 times in a typical 1 hour flight. The GNS530W is seated in the rack straight. I did have a good look at the rack when it was installed. It had numerous holes drilled in it. The avionics technician did mention that there were limited options on where to mount everything because the rack was used so many times previously.
