I'm new to Mooneys and have a dumb question.  Where is the engine hour meter located?  The tach doesn't have one and there is what looks like a hoobs meter by the passengers left foot.

If I am understanding your question, that one that looks like a Hobbs, is it. My understanding is that it reads engine time with a variation for engine speed. When you are running at the particular engine speed it is set for, it reads hours. If you are at a lower RPM, it will read proportionally less. At  higher RPM, proportionally more hours.

The hobbs ( hour meter ) on my 1981 K is on the passenger side of the center console thingy, as you noted by the passenger left foot. Easy to miss if you don't know it's there.

Hour meters in tachometer are supposed to record time accurately at a specific engine RPM depending on the tachometer.  Hobbs type hour meters just count when they are powered.

Not all Mooney's came from the factory with a Hobbs meter. Check your equipment list if you can't find it. It may not be there.
