nels Posted July 23, 2016 Report Posted July 23, 2016 Finally got my new to me 201 home and I'm in need of a canopy cover and a set of shoulder belts. Good used would be fine. Any help out there. Quote
kommers Posted July 23, 2016 Report Posted July 23, 2016 Company that makes shoulder belts: http://www.alphaaviation.com/ and this one makes covers: http://www.airplane-covers.com/ I bought these items from them. They are also selling via ebay 1 Quote
AaronDC8402 Posted July 24, 2016 Report Posted July 24, 2016 I strongly suggest http://planecover.com/low_wing_covers.htm for a plane cover. Our plane came with a cover (can't remember which brand), but the cover from Jim is much better fit and finish. 3 Quote
Hank Posted July 24, 2016 Report Posted July 24, 2016 Plane Covers are great, and they fit much better than all others I have seen. 1 Quote
wiguy Posted July 25, 2016 Report Posted July 25, 2016 Your particular plane may have an antenna in a different position than a location you may get with a used cover. I'd measure and get one from planecover.com. Quote
Marauder Posted July 25, 2016 Report Posted July 25, 2016 I have a Plane Cover. Well made and fits well (no flapping). Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk 1 Quote

I borrowed the cover from my old E model and the antennas on the new plane will really need to be addressed when ordering a new cover. Quote
carusoam Posted July 26, 2016 Report Posted July 26, 2016 If you talk to jim Cancil, he can update the covers he built to include new antennae, fix old zippers and reseam the old threads... all for a nice price. The sunbrella fabric lasts so long compared to the threads and bits... Best regards, -a- 1 Quote
M20F-1968 Posted August 20, 2016 Report Posted August 20, 2016 I have a couple of canopy covers I could part with. Good price. I can take some pictures when next out at the hangar. I also have a set of wing covers I do not need as well. John Breda 1 Quote
BJM61 Posted October 21, 2016 Report Posted October 21, 2016 Hoping someone can help me with this, we just installed GNS 430, JPI, and looking into a new transponder with ADS-B, but before moving forward we need a plane cover that will cover the avionics access panel completely. It looks like most of the covers out there will stop just short of the access panel. While the plane is hangered when at our base airport, it is left out side when traveling, which is happening more and more. On a recent flight I lost a radio due to water getting in from the access panel. The radio was working when I landed, the weather then got worse (heavy rains etc) and the next day when I fired up the plane, the radio was not working (radio shop confirmed it was moisture). So before we sink more money into avionics we want to make sure we are not going to lose them in a rain shower. Long story short, I'm in need of a cover that will stretch from behind the wind screen to the front section of the cowling. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Quote
carusoam Posted October 21, 2016 Report Posted October 21, 2016 Jim Cancil's covers do the complete job... from radio access to baggage door. you can find him at http://planecover.com/ Looks like Jim is going to take a little vacation... It's worth the wait if you can. Somebody else will make a recommendation from the west coast... Best regards, -a- Quote
BJM61 Posted October 21, 2016 Report Posted October 21, 2016 Thanks I will take a look at Jim's and see what he has. Quote
Hank Posted October 21, 2016 Report Posted October 21, 2016 +1 for Plane Covers! It gues right over my access panels, and shoukd do do even for the old windshield. You don't want one like in the background. 1 Quote

BJM61 Posted October 21, 2016 Report Posted October 21, 2016 Thanks for the info Rookie. M20F-1968 do you have anything for a 61' B model. I assume since just the fuselage was stretched in 66' the covers should fit a short body B. 1 Quote

Yetti Posted October 21, 2016 Report Posted October 21, 2016 You might want to replace the seal under the radio access covers. The old seal is held on with contact cement. A stainless brush, contact cement and this makes a new seal http://www.homedepot.com/p/M-D-Building-Products-1-2-in-x-20-ft-Caulk-Backer-Rod-71480/202066515?cm_mmc=SEM|THD|google|&mid=sXHAZG02o|dc_mtid_8903tb925190_pcrid_111414437105_pkw__pmt__product_202066515_slid_&gclid=CjwKEAjw1qHABRDU9qaXs4rtiS0SJADNzJis2JjtbrlTRaKLTE-OkEu2zjzhK8EttnWIx5p_UWXr1xoC6H3w_wcB 1 Quote

nels Posted October 24, 2016 Author Report Posted October 24, 2016 Thanks for asking, Rookie. It's a 1978 J model with 1100 hrs total time. Spent its life in a hangar. I bought it out of an estate. It seems the fellow bought it about 20 years ago to learn how to fly with. He had a stroke shortly after purchase but continued to take lessons and unfortunately could never get his medical. It was flown periodically by others in an attempt to justify ownership but never got a ton of hours stacked up on it. It flys great. After getting it home I noticed the interior panels, which are in great shape, where starting to yellow. I want to keep them from deteriorating so I took all of them out to redye them and just last week got them back in. It seems like these simple jobs are never so simple. Quote

However, instead of using caulk or cement we ended up using 1" wide very thin foam strips and double sided tape. This gave a much better and more reliable seal and lets us get into those panels without dealing with the sealing mess every time. Quote
Yetti Posted October 25, 2016 Report Posted October 25, 2016 double sided tape will go away when it gets wet. the 1/2" foam round glued into the channel mimics the factory gunk they put in there. Quote
