Moritz gauges are great until they're not.

Mine in my 2000 M20R are ok so far.

Previous plane P46T also had a dozen Moritz gauges and repairs are expensive.  Sent them out twice in 600 hours.   Torque gauge would as you say get "wonky" and fluctuate between 200 and 700 hp at several Hz, then settle down. Fuel gauges (3) would sometimes swiftly fall to zero, then slowly return to what appeared real readings.  Analog needle would sometimes differ from digital digits displayed.

If you send the cluster to get one gauge repaired invariably another will be found to be "out of calibration" and need repairs.

I plan to convert to JPI 930 or similar rather than send the Ovation gauges for repair.

There was a bulletin for faulty senders for a certain range of serial numbers. About your year if I recall. That was my problem with similar symptoms.
