AZ231 Posted May 30, 2016 Report Posted May 30, 2016 (edited) I've been flying in Arizona for five years, but have never done an overflight of the Grand Canyon, so this weekend we made it happen. Loaded the wife and two kids in the Mooney and made a scenic loop. Departed Phoenix Deer Valley (KDVT) and flew north over KGCN via the transition routes at 11,500. Descended into Page (KPGA) with incredible views of Glen Canyon Dam and Lake Powell. Around 1830 we departed KPGA to head east and catch Monument Valley at dusk before turning south to return to Phoenix. Definitely 3.7 of the most beautiful hours I've logged yet. rbridges Posted May 31, 2016 Report Posted May 31, 2016 great pics of the canyon. Kinda cool seeing the highway cut through the last one. 1 Quote
Oldguy Posted May 31, 2016 Report Posted May 31, 2016 Made a quick Monday morning breakfast run up to Tupelo Honey Cafe in Chattanooga where we met up with N329DM. Great flight up and some fun build-up dodging on the way back. Starting memorial Day weekend, we pretty much have a hiatus on going to the beach until September unless it is a special event. Growing up on the coast, you know when to evacuate - hurricanes and tourist season. Quote

Wow, those photos of the Grand Canyon are so fun. And I loved the photos of your family, all smiles. Reminds me of flying with my Mom and Dad and brother. Family is everything, and you have a happy one. Thanks for sharing. 1 Quote

mike_elliott Posted May 31, 2016 Report Posted May 31, 2016 touch base with Bucko or Dave Marten. You might also go to beechtalk.com and see about going to one of their clinics, Jolie. I think last year Dave Marten held a clinic in Paso Robles. 1 Quote

So far nothing has worked out, scheduling-wise. There was a workshop the weekend I was in Texas for the Cessnas. I will keep a look out. Would rather it was Mooney-specific, but could do Cessna, Beech, etc. Quote
chrisk Posted May 31, 2016 Report Posted May 31, 2016 Austin Tx to Pagosa Springs Co for the weekend. Beautiful weather for the whole trip! http://flightaware.com/live/flight/N9821P/history/20160528/1255Z/KGTU/KPSO Quote
steingar Posted May 31, 2016 Report Posted May 31, 2016 Finally got some good wx on Monday, but some gastrointestinal issues kept me grounded. Gotta pass the IMSAFE checklist before I fly, especially if I've got pax. 1 Quote
