Danb Posted April 18, 2016 Report Posted April 18, 2016 As we are all aware our IPad's are difficult to see in the sunlight. I'm considering getting a screen protector with sun glare protection for my Mini., since there are a few on the market-- what do you use and what would you recommend. Sporty's have a couple one I stock for $28.00, rather expensive? Quote
Bennett Posted April 18, 2016 Report Posted April 18, 2016 For what it worth the (expensive) Mini 4 has a faster processor, and the low glare screen. I upgraded to the Mini 4, and I use it in a Ram mount on the pilot side yoke. Really works well in glare situations. I tried a "low glare" protector screen on my previous Mini, but I felt that I lost some resolution, and I removed it. 1 Quote
DXB Posted April 19, 2016 Report Posted April 19, 2016 Yeah Used one of the sportys ones- cant recall which one- on my mini- I agree it detracted more by reducing crispness of the screen than gained from less glare- I threw it away after a couple months Quote
cnoe Posted April 19, 2016 Report Posted April 19, 2016 I too find a clear screen protector to be much better in bright sunshine as long as you position it so there's no bad reflection from outside (i.e. on the yoke or similar). I found matte protectors to be worse. Turn the brightness up and plug in as needed for battery life. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk Quote
ArtVandelay Posted April 19, 2016 Report Posted April 19, 2016 I used an opaque screen protector, I also use auto shades from Walmart to keep direct sunlight off it, keeps it cool as well. Quote
Danb Posted April 19, 2016 Author Report Posted April 19, 2016 TJ, neat, I just got a couple shades from Walmart, like Jose has. Quote
jlunseth Posted April 21, 2016 Report Posted April 21, 2016 You will probably laugh, but i use my iPad alot, for work, at home, and in the plane. What works for me is not to clean the screen often. I little bit of oil from your fingers helps quite alot. I used a Zagg on my first iPad and that worked ok, but have found the unclean screen is pretty good. Quote
steingar Posted April 21, 2016 Report Posted April 21, 2016 First iPad I tried (Mrs. Steingar's iPad) was barely readable in bright sunlight. I now have one (I think) with a retina display that is quite readable in the aircraft. Quote
Hank Posted April 22, 2016 Report Posted April 22, 2016 I find my mini retina is very readable in sunlight, the problem is the reflections of whatever is in front of it. I try to face it towards dark-colored things. My Samsung phone has very little reflection, but is incredibly dim in sunlight. Seems like there is no optimal solution . . . Quote
Browncbr1 Posted April 22, 2016 Report Posted April 22, 2016 I had struggled with glare and so on with my iPad mini on the yoke. I've also had frustration with my JPI monitor being blasted by bright sun when flying easterly in the late afternoon. So, just the other day, I bough some 20% static cling window film from advanced auto. They make a 5% also, but I thought I would start with 20 and see how it goes. It comes in a 24" wide 6.5' roll. I figured I would cut clings for each window, label which is which discretely, and keep something that I can roll them up in if I want to remove them. I liked polito's window shade idea, but thought I would try this too. They actually make some clings that have graphics visible to the exterior, such as a beach and palm trees, which might turn some heads on the ramp. Quote
