Joe Larussa Posted May 10, 2016 Author Report Posted May 10, 2016 So here is an update. I took the plane over to an autopilot place. They tested each component in the system. Everything tested okay except for the startup voltage for the roll servo. He opened it up and there was some carbon build up on the armature. Cleaned it up and voltage increased. He says should solve problem. On the way home shot an Rnav and seemed better. Few days later some good Ifr weather. Shot a Rnav approach that was not too shabby. Popped out a 800 feet and was impressed. Next an ILS to a different airport. Vectors to final using heading bug then hit Nav to intercept final. Again not to shabby! Now back home for the vectors to final using heading bug and hit Nav to let it intercept the ILS. It overshoots final then makes a turn in the opposite direction before intercepting then overshooting. I was in the soup until about 1100 feet. It finally somewhat settled down and got me lined up. Don't know where to go from here. Quote

The reason I am asking is because maybe there is something unique about how it works in conjunction with your STEC. Mine is derived from the Aspen PFD. If I am flying a LPV approach, I never disengage the GPSS throughout the approach. It stays active and becomes alive when I fly the GPS missed. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk Looks like I have the Stec Gpss. It's a little box next to the roll steering computer. 1 Quote
thinwing Posted May 14, 2016 Report Posted May 14, 2016 Hi I assume you are using avionics assoc at your home field. That servo cleanup could be temporary ...have them check servo again.Maybe overhaul time.Executive autopilots at Ksac overhauled my pitch servo...good luck Quote

Sometimes it's awesome and sometimes not so much. Maybe it's just as good as it's going to get. It's not unsafe just not perfect which drives me nuts! Quote
thinwing Posted May 16, 2016 Report Posted May 16, 2016 To bad stec servos are such a pain to remove ...the Bendix King s drop out with two bolts and don't require removal of control bridal .. Quote
