Hi fellow MSers,

We are planning a trip from Pittsburgh to Saint Simons Island this weekend.  I'd do the trip nonstop no problem (3:45) but we will be traveling with a toddler so we'll plan to break the trip up over two days.   First stop will be LYH to visit family and then we'll head to SSI.   For that second leg (2hr43min) I'll probably need to break it up further into an ~1 hr leg and then a 1:45 hr leg so that the kiddo doesn't go nuts.

Anyone have suggestions ions for a good place to stop, preferably for lunch, and with facilities that will accommodate a diaper change,in South Carolina?  If that place has cheap gas for a top off even better.

Thanks and take care

I liked KCPC Columbia county... Nice runway, good location, reasonable fuel. And always was able to borrow crew car for BBQ...

Barnwell, SC KBNL worked well for me. Nick brick FBO with weather radar, well-maintained minivan to run into town. A great traveling experience. It was about a 20 minute flight NNW from Savannah, and saved > $2/gallon on fuel.

Thanks for the suggestions guys. I'll let you know how it pans out. Weather should be "skipped" for the flight down. Leaving before the cold front moves through, spending a day in Virginia to visit the grandparents and then leaving after the fronts moved through. Not the greatest of beach spots this time of year but it's not too far for the Baby, warm enough and hey... It's vacation so happy enough.

Yeah, Runway Cafe at KGMU is an excellent choice, although not really on the way to SSI from Lynchburg. Another option is Beaufort SC, KARW, aka Frogmore International. That would be more direct  and it is a nice scenic flight along the coast. There's no airport cafe, but you can grab the crew car and go to Barbara Jean's which is a staple in the Low Country area (there's one at St. Simon's Island as well, but I think Beaufort is the original).

Once at SSI, by all means don't forget to grab lunch at Southern Soul BBQ, right across the street from the airport. Best darn Q in the area by far.
