Pinto Posted September 19, 2015 Report Posted September 19, 2015 Checking to see if anyone has installed the Garmin AOA, I received a box of parts and no instructions. There is some info on the web but I can not find anything about location and installing the probe. I am looking for info if you have it Quote
MooneyBob Posted September 20, 2015 Report Posted September 20, 2015 I was about to get one too but now I don't know. How something like this can come without the instructions? Quote
donkaye, MCFI Posted September 20, 2015 Report Posted September 20, 2015 I just went to the Garmin website and pulled down the Operator's Manual. I've attached it. The install manual would have to be obtained from a Dealer, who would do the install and logbook entry. Gi-260 AOA Manual.pdf Quote
Pinto Posted September 21, 2015 Author Report Posted September 21, 2015 thanks Don I was able to find the set up manual also. The "kit" consisted of 4 items but no install info. I am going to see if the shop I got it from has it. Thanks for following up Ron Pinto Ewer Quote
glenn reynolds Posted September 19, 2016 Report Posted September 19, 2016 I installed the alpha aoa on my c182 and liked it so much I have spent the past month trying to install a Garmin aoa in my Mooney m20r. One month later it still doesn't work. A couple of difference between brands. The alpha manual is really good. The Garmin manual not so much. Alpha color codes the tubing so you always know which tube is which. Not Garmin. The Garmin bracket is large and so on the m20r wing you can only install it in large access panels whic are at 48% of chord not ideal. Next the Garmin does not have enough adjustment to get the angle correct. The alpha is very adjustable. Quote
DVA Posted October 6, 2016 Report Posted October 6, 2016 I have it installed on my M, it requires an A&P to do the install and sign it off. Quote

That's good to know....I wondered if new probe would install in place of old pitot tube mount and if you could use existing pitot air tubes..guess not Quote
glenn reynolds Posted November 8, 2016 Report Posted November 8, 2016 You are not allowed to remove your factory pitot to install the AOA. The new Angle of Attack must be completely independent of all certified equipment. Otherwise the installation would need to go through extensive flight testing to prove that you still airspeed. Quote
