ovation0219 Posted September 6, 2010 Report Posted September 6, 2010 I have a 2000 ovation2 and it is equipped wtih a 530 WAAS and a KFC 225 autopilot. I found out with the waas upgrade that the KFC225 has GPSS in the unit but mooney did not connect a wire from the autopilot to the GPS. So i had the radio shop connect it and found this did not enable it. You must have the autopilot compter reprogrammed with a laptop to turn it on. I dod not know that there was a plud under the pannel to connect a laptop to the autopilot, but there is. Now after all this i now have a a great autopilot that just works with heading bug and alt. Does anyone know how to operate a KFC 225 after these mods? Quote
rbharvey Posted September 6, 2010 Report Posted September 6, 2010 Detailed procedures for the unique combination of the KFC225 and 430W/530W are in the back of the Garmin operators guide. Has its own sub section. There is a unique procedure there when you are flying a WAAS approach, either LPV or LNAV +VNAV where you need to 'trick' the autopilot with GPS derived analog glide slope. ovation0219 Posted September 14, 2010 Author Report Posted September 14, 2010 Found the wires hooked from the garmin to the autopilot were in the wrong place. Garmin has to be programmed for the KFC 225 not just for a autopilot there is a special setting for the King KFC225. after thest two adjustments it works fine. Normal autopilot operation and garmin prompts you for autopilot output during the approach and GPSS then works. Thanks Quote
