Hello All.

This started a couple of flight ago , noticed my right alternator light flash momentarily on takeoff ,and then again in cruse, just flashed ,and then went out .

Yesterday it did the same thing on takeoff , then about 15 minuets into flight the right alternator light came on ,and stayed on .

The breaker never tripped , I pulled the right breaker ,and finished the flight .

I haven't  looked into it yet .

Any thoughts on what it could be ?

I'm sure I'm not the first to have this happen !

Thanks in advance to all !!

Mine right alternator failed in flight after going through some heavy rain.  The light came on, turned it off and then on...seemed to work for a few seconds (maybe a minute), and then the light came back on.  Shut if off.  Didn't bother to troubleshoot it, just replaced it with a PlanePower alternator.  Works great.

There are shops that can rebuild your alternator...or get a PlanePower and lose 2 lbs from the front of the plane.

carqwik, thank for the information , do you recall the model number of the PlanePower alternator you put on you Bravo?Any weight saving off the front is good! Did you have to change the alt. belt size as well? Thanks!! David.

teejayevan ,will do! That's a good check! Thanks for the information! David

I cycled both switches for the alternators...right was definitely dead.  The PP alternator fits almost perfectly as I recall and did not need a new belt.  It's the 24V 70 amp model...there is a "table" of applications on their website.  Not sure why it says the AL24-P70 model is only for single alternator M20Ms....I have dual alternators (like most) and went ahead and installed it anyways.  Works great.

Thought Siri may have adjusted Carqwik to make him Carsick...

I'm really interested in that, both my alternators are original and the ideal of shaving 2 or 4 lbs off the front is particularly attractive. Did you do one or both of them, and did you change the regulators or anything else?

I don't eve have an alternator annunciator light in my plane! How hard/expensive would it be to have one installed? Seems simple enough.

Xrs,

Really simple if you have a Zeftronics VR....wire and LED

Really worthwhile if you need an upgrade to a Zeftronics VR...

If you have the original springs and wires and stones voltage controller, it is not too expensive to upgrade.

There is a couple of outputs on the digital box that may be nice to know about.

Best regards,

It is likely due to a "Lazy Alternator". In other words one alternator is stronger than the other and if you are not drawing enough power, it goes off line. To confirm this, the next time it goes on, turn on something with a big draw, e.g.landing lights and the alternator light should go out. It is a harmless aberration.
