CoachTom Posted August 1, 2010 Report Posted August 1, 2010 If you ever had a military call sign, do you want to share with the group? Maybe even the how and why of its genesis? This isn't the Unit's tactical call sign such as: "Nightstalker", "Ghost", or other FAA callsigns like: "Reach" or "Truth", but your own! I don't know why, but the individual callsign seems to have always captured the essence of the person or that inglorius snapshot you get when you meet some one that always seems to "ring true". My callsign was and still is: BLUTO. Not because of the character off of the movie "Animal House", but arose from when I first showed up in the Army as I was surrounded by country boys and well heeled West Point graduates who did not understand the rough ways of a kid raised on the streets of Brooklyn who had a horrible, gravelly beard if i didn't shave twice a day... It took six months for my fellow aviators in training to realize I wasn't a bully, rude, or abrasive; just a New Yorker... And just like in "Dances with Wolves", you find out you have a name... But by then, "BLUTO" had stuck and still is my callsign these days when I key the FM radio. Cheers!
Nate Posted August 10, 2010 Report Posted August 10, 2010 Im surprised an Army guy has a personal call. Im most partial to my last ATO call, Bam-Bam. Nate
