It is an Acclaim. It is the driver fault, he didn't look for incoming plane. Runway 26 is 2,700ft long. A little bit short if you come too fast, too high or with a tailwind. Looks like he tried to abort the landing. Notice that the flaps are up and the elevator trim is not trimmed pitch up enough. When on final always verify that your ground speed is lower than your airspeed, specially at night.

Glad no one was hurt and sorry to see a Mooney like that. Does anyone here have an opinion on touch and go's? :)

We all have opinions on touch and goes.

This looks like a too fast landing that transitioned to a go around, and muffed it. Maybe if he had practiced touch and goes? I used to be based at a 3000' field, can't imagine taking a long body there.

Glad to see the pilot is alright. Prop strike, engine tear down, nose gear collapse. Not sure about the wrinkled car, both wings look to be in good shape . . .

The article mentioned touch and goes, I was making light of the several thread about them. This months Mooney Flyer has an article about go arounds in Mooney's.

I'm based at a 3499ft runway and the over run is an incline of riprap leading to the river. If you come in at the proper speed there is almost twice the length needed, come in at the wrong speed or with the wind and it could get damp.

From the pictures it is way off centerline of the runway.  If you looks at an overhead image it looks like it came to rest more in line with the taxiway.

Makes you wonder is a bounce turned into an uncontrollable porpoise of which he could not recover from, our long bodies are not to forgiving when you don't touchdown on the mains at the correct speed and angle..that's tough to look at, resoning in as stated above the proximity of the runway to the plane..

I used to be based at S37. A nice 2,400' X 50' runway with a slope and displaced thresholds. If you spend most of your time flying out of airports with big runways, landing at one with shorter and narrower runways can catch you by surprise.

During the recent MAPA safety program at Roanoke my instructor had me practicing at Smith Moutain airport was 3000 ft though and it was more than plenty of runway...but that practice made you aware that you still have to fly our planes by the numbers and they will act properly if not then the plane is flying you!

Big question is this an accident or incident...depends on damage???? one is reportable one is not....contact legal at AOPA for determination

Very true.  I have a friend who is an instructor and works off a nice wide long runway.  Once his students gets the hang of things and is just about ready to solo he has them stop by the shorter narrow one I'm based at.  Every one of them has had to have help of some sort, some more than others.
