alaures Posted September 23, 2014 Report Posted September 23, 2014 Hello everyone, I am new to the forum ... so, thank you for allowing me to join! I have heard great things about the group and, now owning a Mooney, I thought that I'd jump right in! I have a J-model for which I would like to purchase some parts, in particular several inspection covers, the wing-tip and leading-edge lenses, and perhaps a few miscellaneous parts like fuel gage sending units, etc., that are found to need replacement. I spoke with the factory and, indeed, they are supplying parts for our lovely birds, but we are relegating to buying them through a service center. Not a bad thing, necessarily, since they can help with getting the exact right part, etc., but there is the question of the price that they will charge. The factory does not provide an MSRP list to general customers and said that the service centers are free to set their own pricing. Has anyone found a service center which is particularly good at being helpful while charging a fair, yet not exhorbitant, price for parts? Any help and suggestions will be greatly appreciated ... by everyone in the forum, not just me, I would assume!! Thanks ... and, fair skies! Andy Quote
chrisk Posted September 23, 2014 Report Posted September 23, 2014 For plastic, I would look at http://www.glapinc.com/Mooney/index.htm Dugosh, Maxwell, and LASAR all have a good reputation. Quote
John Pleisse Posted September 23, 2014 Report Posted September 23, 2014 Lonestar....Dennis bought the factory out during one of their bankruptcies/factory closures. He has everything and then the buying power of a service center. Quote
The-sky-captain Posted September 23, 2014 Report Posted September 23, 2014 I've dealt with both Maxwell and Lasar. Both are top notch, you can't go wrong with either. Quote
Bob_Belville Posted September 23, 2014 Report Posted September 23, 2014 I've dealt with both Maxwell and Lasar. Both are top notch, you can't go wrong with either. Ditto to that and these folks are big supporters of MAPA, Mooney Ambassadors, and the broader Mooney community. Plus they both are very patient and willing to provide free advice. I'm in NC, far from either one but that does not seem to affect their willingness to help with the Mooney specific problems that might stump our local shops. Quote
Cabanaboy Posted September 23, 2014 Report Posted September 23, 2014 Lasar is top notch. They are in CA, they know their stuff and can get it for you. carusoam Posted September 23, 2014 Report Posted September 23, 2014 Welcome aboard Andy, Add some data to your avatar it will make it a tad easier to make informed recommendations... Get to know your local MSC. They are a great resource. Go visit them in person before you need them. Go there because you want to, not because you have to... Best regards, -a- 1 Quote
bonal Posted September 24, 2014 Report Posted September 24, 2014 I most likely would not have even bought a Mooney if it had not been for the folks at LASAR got to know them before and learned a lot about the Mooney before I made my purchase. They never minded me stopping in even though I flew a 150 at the time. Good people. And yes they know Mooney's Quote

flyboy0681 Posted September 24, 2014 Report Posted September 24, 2014 +1 I ordered an obscure part from them (trim/flap indicator decal) and had it in hand within a week. Total cost with shipping: $4.50 Quote
Parker_Woodruff Posted September 24, 2014 Report Posted September 24, 2014 Maxwell and LASAR. I always chose Maxwell b/c that's where I sent my plane for work and it also makes geographic sense. Quote
alaures Posted September 29, 2014 Author Report Posted September 29, 2014 Hello again, everyone. Thanks for all of the responses! I very much appreciate your help. I will definitely check them out and also visit the MSC nearer to me, as CARUSOAM suggested ... give them a chance. I am in WI so I can check out 2 in IL and another in MN. I guess I'll just "have" to do some flying! Andy Quote
KSMooniac Posted September 29, 2014 Report Posted September 29, 2014 FWIW, in the last week I've ordered some factory parts via Maxwell and LASAR, and they were priced reasonably, and shipped very quickly. (I needed a new flap position indicator cable housing and the "casing nuts" to terminate it at the bulkhead by the actuator. The housing is sold by the foot so it is much cheaper than ordering a Mooney assembly.) Quote

LANCECASPER Posted September 29, 2014 Report Posted September 29, 2014 Lonestar....Dennis bought the factory out during one of their bankruptcies/factory closures. He has everything and then the buying power of a service center. I am in San Antonio. Dennis retired and closed Lone Star a couple years ago. Since then I use Dugosh - they are fair and across the field from Mooney. Quote
