Mark89114 Posted July 13, 2014 Report Posted July 13, 2014 I am in the process of looking for a Mooney and looked at my first 252 on Friday. A thought just occurred to me and that is there weren't any static wicks. I vaguely recall a C172 having them for my IFR training, (many many years ago) and then the big shiny jets I flew most recently. Are Mooneys so efficient they don't generate static (joke) or is there something else going on? Or did I miss something really obvious? Quote
PTK Posted July 13, 2014 Report Posted July 13, 2014 Static wicks were more popular (necessary) back in the Loran days. With today's GPS and NAV/comms they're not really needed. They do look cool though! I was going to add them before I had mine painted but decided against it. I wasn't thrilled with the idea of drilling holes and the constant upkeep. They do have a tendency to disappear! Quote
carusoam Posted July 13, 2014 Report Posted July 13, 2014 They disappear off my O often... Best regards, -a- Quote
Nathan Peterson Posted July 14, 2014 Report Posted July 14, 2014 Guy came over and got to close to my plane and then I heard the noise….. Needless to say I wasn't very happy. Quote
Mooney_Allegro Posted July 16, 2014 Report Posted July 16, 2014 They disappear off my O often... Best regards, -a- They disappear often how? By getting broken off or people stealing them? Quote
carusoam Posted July 16, 2014 Report Posted July 16, 2014 They get broken. I have not witnessed how... What I learned is that they should be removed if the plane stays in a community hanger for an extend period... They are easy to walk into accidentally. Best regards, -a- Quote
David Mazer Posted July 17, 2014 Report Posted July 17, 2014 My 252 Rocket has them and they aren't particularly cheap considering what they look like they should cost. I think they're about $35 each. Quote
