BigTex Posted March 25, 2014 Report Posted March 25, 2014 Guys, You see this new SAIB that came out today regarding the Lycoming cylinder mounting studs and recommendations on inspection? Here's the link to it: http://rgl.faa.gov/Regulatory_and_Guidance_Library/rgSAIB.nsf/0/8C01A9AAE28B401F86257CA50066C517?OpenDocument&Highlight=ne-14-13
MB65E Posted March 25, 2014 Report Posted March 25, 2014 I lubed the snot out of mine at install last year for that reason. Plus if you don't lube them, you will snag the oring that seals them anyway. Not an AD yet... It would be silly if it ever became an AD. Matt
Hank Posted March 25, 2014 Report Posted March 25, 2014 Just read it a little while ago. Two foreign incidents of corrosion starting in plating pits. None in the USA per FAA and NTSB. Lycoming says follow their procedures, unless there is too much paint in the way, it won't be a problem. They also referenced proper use of torque wrenches. I'm not worried, and not doing nothing.
orionflt Posted March 25, 2014 Report Posted March 25, 2014 Another CYA bulletin....nice to know if your doing an overhaul, nothing to tear down your engine over
kerry Posted March 26, 2014 Report Posted March 26, 2014 I had some that came loose on a O-320 I have in a experimental 25 hrs after a major OH. Luckily I caught it and re-torqued them.
