Just a heads up, anyone with an IO550 might want to check their engine fuel pump next time you have the cowl off.  I found (just by chance) my fuel pump leaking at the rear near the shaft of the mixture control.  I was told my Dave at Great Planes Fuel in Tulsa this is a common problem and just needs repair, o rings and such.  The problem is this will not be found unless the engine is running or you turn on your boost pump while looking at the engine driven pump, and you don't usually look at the pump with the engine running and the cowl off.

We were setting the idle fuel pressure with the engine running ( I know its dangerous)  and found the leak.  690Total time.  You will see black stains on the bottom rear of the pump if it has been leaking.

Similar challenge for the electric boost pump it's well...

Somebody passing by waved at me to let me know... Electric pump leaked during pre-start procedure.

there is a drain at the bottom of the pump. If you see blue in the area of the drain.... Fuel isn't 'normally' flowing out there.

Approximately 9 years and 1800 hrs on the A/F.

New seals are the prescription...

You might also notice excessive priming requirement. As the fuel isn't going where you think it is....

Best regards,

Hi

my IO-550 also developed this fuel leak at the fuel pump right by the mixture linkage. Do you remember exactly what it took to repair it? Was it just the replacement of the one O-ring shown below?

Also, did you have to send the whole pump out or was it fixed on the plane?

lastly, how much did this set you back?

thanks!
