Any type specific things I should look for as gotchas that are different than the E? I know about the dual magnitos and the dukes gear motor/actuator on the '77 I guess, anything else?

The 201 was in production for so long there are many variants with different attributes, and of course as time went on many nice things were added. Most owners will tell you that one of the single most important improvements was the one-piece belly panel, which helps SIGNIFICANTLY when doing maintenance (my A/P says it saves him about two hours). Other style changes are the move to rounded windows starting in some models in 1987 (that was one of my desired criteria, purely for aesthetics) and the move to the 28volt system at about the same time (but not all models right away).

I got an Excel spreadsheet from somebody when I was doing my search, so I'll try to see if there's some way to post it here on the Forum, otherwise send me a PM and I'll email it to you. It really helped me as I was looking at different birds for sale. It also includes the recommended base resale price taken from the All America boys' analysis that can help factor your valuation.

I have the spreadsheet that Jeff_S is talking about. But I also have one that I put together that compares a number of different planes: 201, 231, missile and (don't curse me) a Comanche 250. It has a weight for each criteria, a value for each aiplane and a score. It then totals all values for each airplane. For me, the 201 won with the Missile 2nd, 231 3rd and the Comanche a distant 4th. You can weigh and score each item as you desire and may come up with different results.

This spreadsheet also has another tab to compare specific aircraft for features and cost.

PM me with your email address if you want this spreadsheet. I found it very helpful in purchasing.

Best of luck finding a Plane!

What about a nice 231? They seem like a lot of bang for the buck...

If I was looking for a newer bird that would be one I would consider.

I learned something about Barnstormers today. If you click on the link that says "Mooney" you won't find this ad. If you click on the link that says "201 (M20J)" you won't find this ad. If you click on the link that says "205 (M20J)" you won't find this ad. If you click on the link "M20J" you won't find this ad. However, if you enter Mooney 201 in the search box, it does turn up. Silly me.
