I am looking for a spare card and the Garmin special card reader to update the data set. Do any of you G650 / 750 users still have one I a drawer somewhere? This will let me update the card at home and swap it out when I get to the airport.

Thanks, ya'll. I'm just not ready to drop the coin for a G650 yet.

Hank - Mooneymite I have the card reader, loaned it to Yves, when he visited at end of year. He got his other one to work. I'll contact him.

Not a standard SD card reader.

PM me.

What is it exactly? Never had a 430/530. Is it not just a normal SD card reader?Sent using Tapatalk

Thev430/530 came out well before SD cards became standardized equipment across the tech realm. They (430/530 cards) use a proprietary design and special card reader. Both are very expensive (for what you get)

I prefer the word "exorbitant".

I complained to Garmin about the cost once, the rep assured me that these data cards were "special".  After reviewing the specs of the memory chip, they are about the sorriest chips now available on the market....I guess that does make them "special".

They are similar to Compact Flash cards but a unique package I'm sure to increase profit for Garmin.  I bought one when I got the plane and it's great.  I just swap it out when I go flying after an update.

Yvesg,

Looks like at least Mooneymite is looking for a spare card not the reader at this point.

Will let you know if something comes up.

Hope everything in your world is doing well.

Jepp's card for the Aspen isn't any better... $160 for a microSD that has ther "special" files on it.

The Aspen card is only special in that it is speed rated at a 4 or 6, I can't remember.  I bought a replacement micro SD with a 10 rating, borrowed another Aspen SD card, copied over the proprietary files, then updated the new card.  It works fine and cost nothing (maybe $10).

I'll re-light this one again... I'm too Looking for a spare GNS 430/530 WAAS nav data card. It's the one with the silver sticker, not the green one...

My Avionics shop said Jeppessen sells them, but at full retail.

Thanks all,

-Matt
