Looking for input. We may need to buy a new fuel boost pump. I'll know more tomorrow. The model for our '78 J is a Weldon 8163A. However it looks like an Andair PX375-PC might work too. It is about $100 cheaper and a pound lighter. Anybody using one? Are you happy with it?

I have put two Weldon's in over the years. If you are good about gascolator mx and don't leave it on all the time....they last 6-8 years. My IA says there is little difference between the two except for price and availability.

Just had my Weldon overhauled by Quality Aircraft Accessories for $798.  Pump was 29 years old the original from 1985 when I bought the plane new.  They gave me a quick turnaround a couple of days plus shipping time OK to TX.

Thanks.  We ended up finding a 'serviceable' Weldon for $300.  About 1/3 the cost of  a new one.  Worth a try.  For what its worth, the problem we had was that we could turn the pump on and hear it run at high speed but it would not develop any pressure.  We tried switching tanks, running fuel through the gascolator, both tanks again.  Same result.  I'm guessing either the shaft sheared or the impellor came loose.

Check the archives here... there is at least one shop that will overhaul fuel pumps for modest money (not QAA) so you can get your old one fixed up as a spare and have it ready to go when the new used one craters, unless you had to send your old one in for that $300 deal.  $300 outright sounds like a bargain to me.

I'll see if I can find the thread.

The $300 was outright, no exchange, but it is used and not yellow tagged, just 'serviceable'.

Bob, have you find out what was the problem? I'm having the same issue on my 8163A Weldon.

Tercio,

We ended up having the pump rebuilt by Aeromotors LLC in Wisconsin.  Good price, quick service.  The problem was that the impeller had broken into 4 pieces.

Thanks, Bob!

I've just sended yesterday my pump to revision, I supose its either the impeller or a broken shaft, too, as you said, my symptoms were the same.

Bill, I'm going to try rebuilt my pump, since I'm in Brazil and getting parts from the US its big trouble, big time, and big money, but thanks for sharing, I'll let you know if by any chance I need yours!

Regards!
