Indianarob Posted November 26, 2013 Report Posted November 26, 2013 Guys I have a 1977 Mooney 201 with inline vacuum filter. It is about 5/8 diameter and about 6 inches long and goes inside a aluminum housing. I replaced it last year, but can't remember the part number or where I bought it. I know they have been difficult to find in the past. Can anyone help. Thanks Quote
jetdriven Posted November 26, 2013 Report Posted November 26, 2013 It's called a rapco bellanca filter. RA-51-a5. http://www.texair.com/shopexd.asp?id=57260 Quote
Indianarob Posted April 14, 2014 Author Report Posted April 14, 2014 TexAir is out of stock and I discussed this with Rapco this year at Sun N Fun and they have stopped production. Does anyone have any inventory left. Or is there a retro fit to eliminate this type of filter. Looking forward to your feedback. thanks Quote
Mooneymite Posted April 14, 2014 Report Posted April 14, 2014 Aircraft Spruce shows this one has a Mooney application, but it's pricey! Inline Air Filter CV1J4 Quote
jetdriven Posted April 15, 2014 Report Posted April 15, 2014 That's a filter in front of the firewall. The bellanca filter I got from aeroparts&supply. Spruce don't carry them anymore. Quote
Scott F Posted March 4, 2022 Report Posted March 4, 2022 I have a 1978 Mooney M20J with a KFC200 autopilot and HSI. One long filter supplies both the HSI and AI. Neither the Mooney parts book or maintenance manual describe this configuration, so the filter may be the obsolete Rapco filter mentioned in this post. Has anyone found a replacement or authorized modification. I've searched for info, but so far haven't found an answer. Quote
Fly Boomer Posted March 4, 2022 Report Posted March 4, 2022 I'll follow this, as I'm interested as well. Quote
carusoam Posted March 5, 2022 Report Posted March 5, 2022 Welcome aboard sfowler… Looks like a few Mooneys used different air filters over time… Or possibly something got added along the way… Our best parts specialist is Dan at Lasar… He is really good at knowing what parts are supposed to be there… and often has them on the shelf… Lasar is an MSC in Ca… The lowest cost method is to find the proper parts manual for your plane and look it up…. Best route… If you are unsure of the part being the right one… Start with Dan…. Pp thoughts only… Best regards, -a- Quote
PT20J Posted March 5, 2022 Report Posted March 5, 2022 Here is what later model M20Js used according to the IPC. You can cap off one fitting if you don't need both. 1J7-1 https://www.aircraftspruce.com/catalog/inpages/rapcofilter.php 1 Quote

Took it out when I deleted the vacuum stuff. 1 Quote
Yetti Posted March 6, 2022 Report Posted March 6, 2022 It is pretty well known that Brittain uses FRAM gas filters for their vacuum filters. I think I checked the microns and they are same as most vacuum filters. Fram GA 12 Quote
A64Pilot Posted March 6, 2022 Report Posted March 6, 2022 Back in the days when everyone smoked, those things would get nasty. Now that most don’t, and in aircraft that fly only 100 hours a year or less, one questions replacing them every year. Quote
Scott F Posted March 9, 2022 Report Posted March 9, 2022 Thanks for alll the comments. After reviewing some other forums it appears the filter in my plane is a “51A5 filter” and its use is related to my KFC200 autopilot install. Correction to my previous comment, the filter only supplies the AI, the HSI is electric only. PT20J, you state the 1J7-1 filter is used “according to the IPC” . . . what does IPC stand for and do you know if an STC approval is available for a modification? Quote

IPC is the Mooney Illustrated Parts Catalog. If the part is listed there, it is an approved part by Mooney. Quote
