Proper manifold pressure line
Marauder replied to Gary0747's topic in Vintage Mooneys (pre-J models)
The manifold pressure firmware fix was added a least a year maybe two ago. If you are seeing it with a unit built in January, you’ll need to add the snubber. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk Pro -
Thoughts on Lynx 9000 with recent events?

Nah, just like you, sometimes a night owl. A lot of these concerns we see in aviation firmware updates are because they are visible due to the certification. Unlike a cell phone where these firmware updates can be done automatically and often without user interface. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk Pro -

Time will tell what L-3 plans are. It wasn’t that long ago I remember people on this site starting to panic about their Avidyne deposits and whether the IFD would ever be released. It won’t be the first time I have had orphans in my panel (Narco & STS LORAN). And if I had installed the G500, I’d be complaining about spending $10k plus to upgrade that orphan to the TXi. It’s a risk with any of this technology. How long before they kill off the GTX-345 because the 375 becomes an attractive option for people looking to get their first or second GPS and a full ADS-B/transponder? Playing in this arena isn’t for the weak of wallet. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk Pro -

Avidyne also released firmware updates to deal with the GPS epoch problem and those units weren’t outdated GPS or were they? The difference was Garmin was ahead of the problem and released updates years ago. The first event happened in 1999. Garmin’s 430/530 were subject to it as well but they provided updates years ago. Even my portable 95XL received the update. The newer units were also updated but I can tell firsthand that something was going on with my GTN 650 on April 6th because it took forever for the GPS to acquire. So long in fact, that I almost canceled the flight on that day. This GPS date rollover issue will continue to occur every 19.7 years until the GPS constellations are updated to 13 digit formats. Not sure. I’d be surprised if they can do it themselves since the avionics shops are using an access portal to get to the firmware downloads and installer software to upload it to the unit. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro -

This is the official notification from L-3 on the roll over issue: “As a valuable Lynx customer, we are writing to inform you that due to the GPS Epoch rollover on April 6, 2019, the Lynx weather products such as the METARs, Winds Aloft and Temperatures Aloft may be unavailable on the NGT-9000 panel mount display. Lynx weather products will continue to display via an external display or via WiFi to a portable electronic device. The Lynx transponder and Lynx ADS-B Out functions are not impacted and the system continues to comply with these regulatory requirements. L3 is working diligently to provide a solution via field update and will communicate a more detailed timeline as soon as possible. If you have any questions, please contact ACSS Customer Support at (623) 445-7070 option 3 or crc.acss@l3t.com. We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this has caused.” As an L-3 9000+ owner, I think the recent software issues are is just like software issues all of the vendors go through. I think Garmin responds faster because they have more units in the field and more resources to jump on issues. As for their GA presence, I do think something is going on. They aren’t taking orders directly anymore and Aspen is now their dealer. Could L-3 be selling their GA portfolio to Aspen? I know L-3 and now Garmin are spending more energies on Part 25 aircraft. Time between 3rd class cert and submission?

Another technique is to go to the AME under a consultative visit to make sure if you need additional tests or documentation from treating physicians PRIOR to your actual medical, you have them in hand when you go in. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk Pro -
Proper manifold pressure line

I REALLY wish they would allow field installable firmware updates. Pulling the unit to have it updated is a BIG deal since we are talking about primary instruments. My plane was down 3 weeks the last time it was sent in. Pulling a Garmin radio is not typically a grounding situation. I get keeping the mechanical repairs in-house, but firmware patches should be field installable. BTW - the firmware update fixed my manifold fluctuations. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk Pro -
And before I forget. I gave my old yokes and shafts to Isaac (the guy who built the fuel tank stripper gizmo). I know he sold his Mooney, but he may still have the shafts. They were clean. This guy: https://mooneyspace.com/profile/11848-isaacpr7/ His N number is still listed. Maybe he gave them to the new owner when he sold the plane. Worth a look. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk Pro

I did the Mooney yoke upgrade in 1998 to allow me to move from the ram horns to the J style yokes. The entire kit including yokes was around $1200 back then. I think the difference between the two shaft types included a slight dimensional change requiring new phenolic shaft blocks to be used. And I think there was something also about the yoke attachment hole but can’t remember the details. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk Pro

And let us know what kind of pricing they are offering these days. I was quoted $1,000 for 3 pieces (runners under the seats and baggage compartment floor). It was in wool and had bound edges, but really, can it be that much? Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk Pro -
My favorite octogenarian was the guy a few of us met at a fly-in at Latrobe, PA. He flew his IO-390 F model from I think Pottstown. He told me he was 89 years old and had the hearing aids to prove it. I think if you can keep yourself reasonably fit and your marbles stay in the sack, you can fly for quite some time. In all the years I have owned my Mooney, any flight review I did had the obligatory departure stall. The usual power setting was around 75%. During a flight review back in 2015 I flew with an instructor who was experienced in Mooneys. He wasn’t satisfied with a 75% power setting and had me do one with full power. I think I have seen only one of the Aspen unusual attitude chevrons during a normal stall practice. Caught my attention when several showed up. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk Pro

iPad Mini in Mooney? Mount type? Location?
Marauder replied to Michael Williams's topic in General Mooney Talk
I mounted one of these where your ashtray is on the center pedestal. I have it set up so that it sits in between the seats. As for the MyGoFlight stuff, yes, stupid expensive. I thought it was really decent quality and paid more for it. Then I saw this on Amazon and bought one to compare. The ratcheting mechanism as far as I can tell is the same as the more expensive unit from MyGoFlight hardware. Obviously they add mounting stuff on it, but I suspect the supplier is this company. That is a 10 amp one. I have a spare of that one. You’ll be good for the next 30 years — at least for that switch. [emoji1787] Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk Pro -
