  1. Oscar -- these keep getting better and better. After you become a famous movie director, I am going to be saying "I knew Oscar when he was just a Mooney pilot" Nice work.
  2. I love the way FlyWalt tried to end this thread. I think he figured out he just stuck a stick in the proverbial oil beehive and the CamGuard bees will soon be on the loose. Oil in GA is a never ending topic. Other than Blackstone's comment on the matter, I would love to see a truly comprehensive analysis of the data supporting type/brand of oil and it's impact on TBO.
  3. Fixed my post, I was talking about the third accident. He had a gear up in the same plane and it looks like they just put a prop on it and he was test flying it. Did I read that right? Wonder what kind of engine inspection they did that would allow a prop to depart...
  4. That video was chilling. So was the preliminary accident report: http://www.ntsb.gov/aviationquery/brief.aspx?ev_id=20110718X33733&key=1 for the third accident. Looks like the pilot had a gear up 3 months earlier in the plane (his total time was 8500 with 4000 in model). In the accident report, it says that someone on the ground saw the prop depart the plane.
  5. Nice. I never have seen the panel of a 74F. My 75F looks a lot different. This is a picture before the avionics upgrade:
  6. Heck you fly out of New York State, it's cold there! You'll need two!
  7. Thanks for keeping us posted on your progress.
  8. The only pilots who have problems fitting into a Mooney are the ones with BIG egos. They can never get their heads through the door.
  9. That's an easy one... If you are married, this will sound familiar "Knock it off you blockhead, you're going to get us killed!".
  10. Having just gone through a tach change from mechanical to electrical, I second or third or fourth the recommendations of verifying the actual prop speed. My mechanical tach was showing 2600ish and the new electronic one shows 2690, verified with a secondary rpm gauge. At what I thought was my cruise setting of 2500, I was actually running around 2400.
  11. I was right! You are part of the Blue Man group. Does anyone have an Alpha system in their Mooney and have videos of it in action? I had one incident that I wrote about in another thread and I am curious if it would have made a difference.
  12. What are you up to? Did I miss a thread on your new machine?
  13. I lost a brake once on my Mooney -- not fun and thankful for a long runway. I missed it too Brett. My Finance Minister reminded me this morning that tomorrow is the Grim Reaper Day...
  14. My upgrade was done as part of the whole panel upgrade and I know that all of my existing intercom and audio panel wiring was removed and replaced with new stereo jacks. My old intercom was separate from the audio panel (sigtronics & KMA20) so everything was pulled. If you have a Garmin GMA 340 it is a slide in replacement. You can have 5 alert inputs installed (radar altimeter, traffic, etc) pumped into the headsets. As for music, there are a number of different configurations you can set up. All to keep everyone happy.
  15. Jamie - I have a GEM 602. If your GEM is connected to the master and you do not have it connected to the avionics masters, it may do what you are describing, a transient spike or low voltage causing an erratic display. I have mine connected to the avionics master as recommended in the installation manual. My oil pressure always is on the high end of the scale, but not redline. Been this way for the 22 years I have owned her. You mention a fuel flow monitor. Do have a pressure sensor on this unit? My factory fuel pressure gauge is mechanical (fuel is sent to the gauge), but it matches the EI fuel totalizer's pressure.
  16. Thanks for the PIREP. For those of you considering an audio panel upgrade, I highly recommend the PS Engineering 8000BT. It has Bluetooth capabilities built into the panel allowing both phone and music functions from your Bluetooth devices.
  17. Bill Wheat explained to me once that our Mooney's stall characteristics were very unpredictable prior to the addition of the stall strips that adorn our wings. Loss of aileron function due to outer wing stalls had a much higher probability of occuring -- leading to a spin. Adding the stall strips increased the stall buffet and more importantly allowed the wing root area to stall before the outer wing. This helps the stall characteristics but still does not eliminate spins from uncoordinated stall entry. I have noticed that it doesn't take much uncoordination in a stall to induce a wing low situation.
  18. Welcome! 75 F owner here. Let us know if you need any help!
  19. Amen brother! I'm at the same place. My F with the mods on it does 155k and that is plenty for me... I certainly don't want to start over either...
  20. Nice video!
  21. Byron - was anything done with your fuel divider during the overhaul?
  22. I don't know HONEY, but it sure looks like they did.
  23. I had this happen once and it was a binding brake. The only other things that I can think of being involved would be the interconnect links to the rudder and the nose wheel hardware.
