  1. We can conjecture all day, mooneymite is right, it's the POH for this plane that should tell us the truth. Here is the page from my POH. A 1975 F.

  9. If you are set on continuing using your current instructor, you may want to explore having another CFII assess your readiness. Although my instructor was a crusty instructing veteran (if I ever hear the term "double your correction angle" again; I will go bonkers), he taught in his comfort zone and a certain style. It made learning some concepts a bit tougher. We flew IMC but he seemed more enamored with flying the same approaches at the same airports. I went up with a couple of different CFIIs who taught me different ways to solve the same problem, including enroute IFR. Sometimes a different approach (pun intended) to training helps develop the understanding of a concept. In addition, I did fly with safety pilots when I wasn't flying with instructors to hone my basic airmanship. Be safe!

  11. Well, that is another savings of $14 (from Aircraft Spruce's price). Thanks! Wish they would get these down into the $10 each range. I would change them more frequently.
  12. From what I gathered from the lengthy thread is that "it depends". I have read everything from "log book entry" to "Field approval". It is amazing that something as simple changing a bulb can have so many answers.

  15. I absolutely agree with Bret. I was fortunate that I logged actual during my IFR training. Even with the experience of flying in the clouds before my checkride, it was still a humbling experience realizing how much I still didn't know about flying in real IMC. The first time you experience the "leans" in the clouds, it should be a wake-up call about the fine line Bret mentions.

  18. Make sure the trim mechanism is properly lubed and working correctly. If not, all bets are off on the STEC system. Mine was binding and my autotrim would not work and if I remembered correctly, popped the trim breaker.

  22. I have a mechanical squat switch on my landing gear. I get the same indication when my donuts are really cold and do not expand enough to hit the squat switch. Do you have the gear override switch? If so, you should have been able to push that button and retract it.
  23. I think you should assess how much night flying you are actually doing and let that be your guide. $936 goes a number of years buying just stock bulbs. What amazes me is how frequently you are going through bulbs. Are your bulbs burning out from usage or vibration? On my F I have the same bulb in the plane that was there when I bought it 22 years ago! I am converting over to a Whelen Par46 not for just increased lighting, but rather to drop my overall amperage consumption. I can't remember how much the stock bulb draws but the LED is a fraction of that.
  24. That, my friend, is the finest example of Mooney thriftiness you will ever see. A Mooney owner too cheap to pay to have all his numbers painted! It is a cool number though. Bet he has fun with ATC.
  25. Just a quick update. I did download it and it will work with my 650 but not the Aspen stuff. In fact, it doesn't even show the Aspen databases on the Mac version. Hopefully you are correct and it will get updated in a future revision.
