  1. I did 1/4" GLAP Solar Grey glass all around. Really didn't have any problems at all. Had to drill new holes for the retainers on the side glass. Windscreen went in with minor fitting. No problem installing the stock windscreen retainer. I'd have to dig out the invoice from my IA but I think total cost including the glass was around $2500. I was busy at the time so I didn't work with him as much as usual. I did scrape out all the old adhesive and that took me the better part of a day. Is it quieter? Yes, but not like you don't need to have a good headset. I feel the 1/4" glass buys you a greater margin of safety in case of a bird strike.
  2. I drain the filter by first punching a hole in the bottom. I set up a piece of aluminum siding 90 degree corner trim and let oil run into it and down into a bucket. You can get the trim at any Home Depot or Lowes for a couple of bucks. Never have any mess.
  3. I also installed Great Lakes 1/4" Solar Grey. Very happy with it. Hardest part was removing the old windscreen and adhesive. New windscreen needed very little fitting, probably less than 30 minutes.
  4. Turbo Plus has been in production for years. However, they moved their facility and have to get new inspections to obtain their PMA. This is probably a busy time for them. A phone call is probably best. They are a stand up company, just in the middle of a lot of changes. Give them an opportunity. I wouldn't waste my time with AirFlow Systems. All they are is talk (if you can even get them on the phone).
  5. If you have major fitment issues Plane Plastics will make a duplicate of your original piece. I had that problem with the rear seat tub plastic with the fold down rear seats. Plane Plastics let me keep the one I bought while they made a new mold and duplicated my original. I think it took about 6 weeks to get the proper part but, they never abandoned me as a customer and worked to resolve the problem without too much inconvenience or any additional costs.
  6. Yes, the J pieces will fit K model. I bought all new interior from them 7 years ago for my K model. You will have to do some additional cutting for oxygen but, no big deal. Just take your time and have a supply of new utility knife blades on hand. Once the blade gets just a little dull it makes it a lot harder and easier to make a mistake. I'm pretty happy the way it came out. I like it better than when the old plastic is covered with fabric or ultra leather. When I bought my pieces they offered 20% off and free shipping if you bought more than $1500. May be a little less expensive now.
  7. Great Lakes Plastics offered a door glass that already has the storm window cut in. You can even order oversized storm windows, same size as used on Beechcraft.
  8. Plus 1 for Sparkchasers
  9. Recently upgraded from a KMA-24 with a PS Engineering 3000 intercom to a GMA-350. Audio is better but not night and day better. Features are great. I would agree that best improvement is with a better headset.
  10. Best guy in your area is John Pallante. He was one of the MAPA instructors. However, he is based in the Atlantic City area, Millville I think. Would be a short XC to get up with John but, he's great and knows all the tricks to get you safe and up to speed.
  11. I have used one for years and love it. However, I attach it with 3M Dual Lock so it can be removed when I install Sun Shields.
  12. I also would like to be listed and have access to the link.
  13. It still could be the battery. You have no idea of how it was treated by the previous owner. If the battery was allowed to completely discharge it may not come fully back when recharged. I'd recommend that you fully charge it with a BatteryMinder, let it rest for several hours then test it with a load tester. This will give you an good idea of the condition of the battery. I had a 6 month old Concorde. I has a passenger that accidently turned on one of the overhead lights while exiting. Came back 2 days later and the battery was totally flat. It took a charge but never exceeded 75% capacity. It just got worse and worse. Finally decided to change it out after a few more months. Fortunately, Concorde has a good warranty so I got a replacement at nearly no cost.
  14. No thanks. I'll hang onto it for that offer. The NavData card doesn't eat much.
  15. After selling my GNS-530W I have a quite a few accessories and books that the new owner didn't want. Basically, I have 2 Jeppesen Skybound Adapters, 1 Garmin NavData Card for GNS-430W/530W and a host of books most of which are new. I also have some 430/530 documentation from before I upgraded my unit to WAAS. This would be perfect for someone who recently installed a 430W or 530W and they want all the documentation and an extra NavData Card. I am looking to sell it as a lot, not in pieces. Asking $250 or best offer
  16. Has anyone made up a fuel tank depth to gallons chart for aircraft with the 78.6 capacity tanks. The levels in both my wing mounted gauges is substantially off even after replacing both wing fuel gauges. I'm thinking of bending the floats but want to get an accurate reading in gallons before I try anything. This would sure help me from draining the tanks and putting in a few gallons at a time to take readings. Thanks!
  17. The way it was simply explained to me when I was first introduced to the KFC-200 is the HSI is the brains but the Flight Director is the brawn. The autopilot is only interpreting the guidance from the KI-256. I do contend that if the system was not operating properly at 4.5" but is now functioning well at 5.5" there probably is a slight leak somewhere in the vacuum system. The vacuum switch that operates the annunciator is a notorious source for leaks. It is also possible that the gauge that was used to adjust the vacuum was not accurate. Running excessive vacuum will accelerate wear on vacuum powered instruments.
  18. I have 4.5" of vacuum during normal operations. My KFC-200 and KI-256 operate perfectly at this setting. Did you perform a Vacuum Leak Down Test to see if your system is holding vacuum and not slowly leaking? By raising the vacuum you may be masking the real problem. I'm not an AP but seeing if you have a hidden problem may be warranted.
  19. I am seriously considering installing the Alpha Systems AOA on my K model. Can anyone give me any advice? Which model display? Valkyrie HUD? Mounting options? Accessories? Pictures of installed display would be fantastic! Thanks
  20. Where are you located? My shop at KJNX will give you a loaner (provided they have one) while they repair or send out your radios.
  21. Yes, I sent my GAMIs back for recalibration about 5 years ago as I was having a hard time running LOP. The people at GAMI were very accommodating. After talking to them they asked that I email data from my JPI 830 for several flights in excess of an hour to look at. They called me and asked me to remove and send them 2 injectors for recalibration. They must have worked on them the day that they arrived because I got them back 5 business days after I sent them out. Recalibration worked perfectly for me, when going LOP my current GAMI Spread is typically 0.1 GPH. All 6 injectors go from leanest to richest within 1/8 turn of the mixture knob. Since my injectors were out of warranty, GAMI charged me around $100 which included shipping and a new warranty on all injectors. I couldn't be more pleased.
  22. ZPH only had about 10 planes on the tarmac and 2 or 3 on the grass. They weren't busy, just plain LAZY!
  23. BTW, flew into ZPH. Worst service I have ever encountered! I had never been there so I had no idea where they would want me to park. Was calling Unicom with no response. Finally shut down in front of the FBO and walked in. The one person on duty was on the phone. Wouldn't even acknowledge me until he finished his conversation. When he finally looked at me I asked if he was monitoring Unicom. Yes, he replied. Then I asked if he heard me. Yes, once again he replied. "So, why didn't you answer me?" I asked. "I was on the phone, what do you want me to do?"was the answer. It was a fiasco getting out rental car. I made the stupid mistake of asking for a good place to eat. He thought and thought and thought some more. Finally he says, "I would send you to the Country Club but they are too busy to serve you" I'd never fly into Zephyrhills again unless it was an emergency. Too many other places around that are happy to help you with just about anything.
  24. Extremely sorry to hear about your grandson! I can only hope that there is a miracle and things turn around for you. We are in Lakeland at the Hyatt. Will be at SnF tomorrow and Wednesday. Heading south Wednesday night to visit friends in PGD. Went to Fantasy of Flight on Sunday. What a bust! Only the smallest of hangars open with about 20 planes. Two short tours, not even worth mentioning. According to the 2 volunteers, Kermit Weeks was going to loose his Non Profit status unless he reopened as a museum. So he put some WWI, WWII and a couple of GeeBees in this hangar and reopened to the public. There are plans that in a 3 years they are going to reopen as a totally new museum. There are supposedly 40 planes being restored at this time either at his shop or other places around the world. I guess we will see. The plan seemed awful ambitious for a 3 year window
  25. I have a DAC-31 with my KFC-200 and love it
