Soft Spongy Brakes - even after bleeding brakes
SheryLoewen replied to LemansJeff's topic in Modern Mooney Discussion
The rotor disc maybe warped ( cupped) put a straight edge across it to check. That would cause the caliper to spring back. Paul Loewen -
Using a skin from another wing is not a option. A new skin from Mooney would be less than $500 Plus shipping. (lucky it did not involve the fuel tank) Replacing the skin would be the best repair. It's a matter of drilling out a lot of rivets and riveting. Paul Loewen

Upgrade M20C to M20E Possible?
SheryLoewen replied to Seth's topic in Vintage Mooneys (pre-J models)
Engine upgrade LASAR does have an STC to put a 200 hp engine in a M20C. $30,000 would be an estimate to have this done. But Why?? -
Lasar speed mods and flush riveting
SheryLoewen replied to Capt_CrashN_Burn's topic in General Mooney Talk
Speed increase speeds advertised by LASAR are tested certified and true. The simple cowl closure yields the same speed benefits as a complete cowl conversion. Paul -

High CHT temps and Baffle seal M20C
SheryLoewen replied to jt_flyer's topic in Vintage Mooneys (pre-J models)
Its necessary to keep the baffle seal tight to keep high pressure on he top of the cylinders. Side note: The LASAR cowl closure does give speed increase 5 MPH in cruise and much more in decent. Usually it doesn't affect cooling. Completely removing the entire cowl gives complete access. Paul -

Trim wheel stuck in a down position
SheryLoewen replied to lithium366's topic in Vintage Mooneys (pre-J models)
Mooney has a kit for this problem It adds some idler bearings so the end travel doesn't jam. -
You could expect it to take 40 hours of labor , even with the LASAR Inc. Precut panel.

SheryLoewen replied to M20 Ogler's topic in Vintage Mooneys (pre-J models)
If there wasn't a hot air dump --Hot air would leak into the airbox/carburetor and cost you power. -

Play in the rudder pedals
SheryLoewen replied to ArrowBerry's topic in Vintage Mooneys (pre-J models)
The Rudder Play is in the Nose gear steering mechanism on top of the nose gear and can be exchanged at LASAR parts. The steering on landing is addressed in Service bulletin M20-202. Wear in the nose gear components is very common and can be restored. -
