  1. All 11 shock discs replaced! The mains were a breeze (except for one bolt that had been buggered up by a previous mechanic), no special tool required. The nose....(done in conjunction with a new nose truss) was an incredible journey without the tool and an opportunity to expand one's socially incorrect vocabulary. Mooney's instructions: minimal. Old discs were 12/90 and just failed to pass muster on this year's annual. Aircraft Spruce price: $125 + tax.....each. Ouch.
  2. The plane is down for a separate issue, so I figured I'd replace the MLG donuts yesterday. We're using the "aircraft weight" method. The right main appears to align well with the new donuts installed (still need to compress), but the left main is giving us fits... When removing the retaining screw, we noticed the shaft did not drop as we removed weight like the right side did. A few firm impacts to the wheel freed it up so we could remove the old donuts. Trying to put everything back in place, we found that the shaft the donuts are on does not rotate forward enough to align with the hole at the top (hits about 1/4" aft of where it should). Any ideas on how to address that and/or what the problem is? I forgot to take photos last night; It was late and I was pretty much "done" when I left. Hopefully the description is enough...
  3. Hello all, We just installed new donuts on the nose wheel along with a LASAR steering horn and a rebuilt nose truss. The steering is much more responsive and no play whatsoever. There is no more shimmy right before rotation now. So overall a pretty noticeable improvement. What I am not happy about is how exaggerated every bump in the pavement feels. My plane bounces like a low rider on Sunset Blvd. Is this the way a Mooney is supposed to feel when taxiing? Anyone else have the same reaction after replacing their donuts? Thank you in advance for your responses, Steve
