  1. I have a working Dukes core (leaks when running) that I intend to send to Aeromotors for rebuild ($400) and then make it available as a "test" or swap unit. You can "borrow" it if you wish. BILL
  2. If the registration page does not come up, REFRESH your cache as you are probably seeing a cached copy and not the latest one. That was my case today at 3pm EST when I registered. Bill
  3. 1: Times: no problem. you will transition from the Piper to the Mooney just fine. Your insurance will probably want 10 hrs of dual and then 10 hr solo before you carry passengers. 2:Price: depending on Avionics, you'll be hard pressed to get a J for 60. Better look for an E or F with decent avionics for that price.. In 2011 I bought my E with 430W, A/P for $46. 3: If you could afford $100K for a J then it's the right plane. I could not so I settled for an E and absolutely LOVE IT. Just did a 4 hr PNP flight on 36 gal of fuel. 4: Vref I think is about 10% high of selling prices. I had a Beech Sundowner for 7 years prior to the Mooney... NIGHT AND DAY. Bill
  4. Bill -- sounds like a great trip. Did this dog have a multi-colored eye? They are so appreciative, aren't they? YES... looks like a husky mix of some sort... And I used that tool twice yesterday !! BILL
  5. Here's the dog eman and I took to Myrtle Beach today. Nice flying over 6000 where it was less than 70 degrees. Boy did we notice the difference when ATC brought us down to 2000 on approach to Grand Strand Airport. Bill
  6. usually twice.. When I drop it on downwind as the speed drops to below 100 mph and then short final to be sure I didn't forget. Bill
  7. Where you located Thomas ? Eman and I fly together often in mine.. I can vouch for him if he is near you. I agree with the others.. It should be flown not just run up. I have been down with various health issues since 10/13 but I keep flying at least once a month if possible with another pilot. Bill
  8. I too got in with them in the beginning.. There were only 600 pilots when I started... Now it's well over 10000 so its a small wonder I'm still able to find a flight with so many looking. BILL
  9. I use a general rule of thumb that a true seller will take 90% (10 % off) of the asking price. Bill
  10. 250-300 is the going rate at two sites in this area. Bill
  11. I'm planning to do one on Sat... I think this is my 18th. BILL
  12. I had a plane that was burning 1 qt / hr. No plug fouling and no belly mess. The next annual I told the guy to pull the low temp cyl. He did and found a broken oil ring... Re rung the cyl and it went to 1qt in 7 hrs. I would have expressed concern like you and then let it drop.. He's old enough to make those decisions. Bill
  13. There is a model 600-B (without the exp) for TSO aircraft.. That's what my friend is getting. That unit has the same paragraph in the description regarding stealth mode. BILL
  14. A friend with a Cherokee 140 is getting it. The dealer quotes the price and his is $6.2AMU installed with wireless for his tablet and a handheld GPS. There is a price quote feature on that site w/o install. Base price is $1400 plus additional features. My friends unit came to $3.3AMU with all the features. Bill
  15. Here's an interesting statement from the NAV WORX site regarding VFR operation: http://www.navworx.com/products-ADS600-EXP.php AutoStealth Mode: The UAT technology is the only ADS-B equipment that will allow for privacy. Normally, ADS-B devices transmit the aircrafts ICAO number, a unique code that is assigned by the FAA to each aircraft. When flying VFR however, there is no need to let the FAA know who you are. The ADS600-EXP randomizes the ICAO whenever the squawk code is set to 1200. In addition, the N-Number of the aircraft configured is changed to "N0", an unassigned N-Number
  16. Exactly why we have a portable generator in the hangar.. We used it alot before we got wired electricity, now only in emergencies. We're at the end of the line on a 50AMP line so oftern there is no power and I have to hunt for which breaker is tripped. Now, I fire up the generator, flip the main breaker off and turn on the changeover switch. Bill
  17. Looks like same amount of water I got in my Beech with old O rings after a rain storm. BILL
  18. When I went 2 years ago, the winds were best at 5000 up and 7500 back. fueled up N of Indy on the way up and W of Cinci on the way back. Used AIRNAV to find the cheapest gas. I didn't want to fly over the lake so we went around the S side of Chicago. All IFR. Bill
  19. Can't beats these airplanes for their effiiciency and speed. Today I went to a funeral in Raleigh and grave service in Dunn. 400 miles round trip. 13 hours Would have loved to had flown but the wife does not fly.
  20. Yes. When I installed it I had a Beech Sundowner and I tested the winch by chocking the mains and the winch pulled the plane over the chocks. Good enough for me... Since then I've broken the winch cable and replaced it with larger and longer cable. No further problems. Bill
  21. Works for me on my Windows laptop with Firefox and my ipod touch with Safari. Bill 2.3.8
  22. http://www.aircraftspruce.com/catalog/elpages/rg_25.php $209
  23. This past annual my A&P asked to fly before he started... He had a checklist of things he took notes on. examples: idle rpm cold, Mag drop left and right., and takeoff rpm (took a reading right at gear-up time). He took some speed measurements in the pattern at various MP levels. and then recorded the airspeed the stall warning came on. then when it was over we went up and compared all the readings. First time I ever saw that done and I was impressed. BILL
  24. My primary keys are in my headset bag and backup in the flight bag. Bill
  25. yea, girls do funny things to teenage boys...
