  1. I bought my JPI450 from Bob B when he did his panel upgrade and it cost $600 to install, (not trivial). Ties to G430W and works great I'd say accurate to 0.1 gal per tank !! BIll
  2. I'll try to get one in the next 2 days. I really like the display even tho small. Easy to read. BILL I went to get pictures yesterday... Had Clyde flying the plane got some great traffic on the display, grabbed the camera and snapped the picture... THEN........CANNOT BE SAVED< NO MEMORY CARD.. Oh well, next time.
  3. I had a 430W already installed so the GDL-88 interfaced directly with that.. I was reluctantant due to the size of the display but now that it's done, I love it. BILL
  4. By the looks of the stripes, it sure does look like the engine WAS running when it hit the car.
  5. Congrats on the PPL, the Mooney and ER (My younger son graduated from them in 2012 and now is a captain for Piedmont Airlines). I fly my E at 2400-2450 RPM and 24 in (if possible or WOT if not) and lean to 20 LOP. Last flight I got 8.0GPH at 5000 ft with 135KTS IAS. I think that's just about at 20MPG and better than my Ford Ranger. I really LOVE my Mooney. BILL
  6. I would have to add the ipad ! I have an android EFB but I don't use Garmin s/w so Flightstream is not a priority for me right now.
  7. $3.60 at the local cheap joint T73 (Kirk Airbase, Lancaster SC). Our manager dropped ours to $4.15 for tenants this month so I got it here. (8A6 Wilgrove, just E of CLT) Bill
  8. I was reluctant to spend the $ for the GDL88 (c6 AMU) install but decided to pull the trigger and am glad I did. I was worried the screen would be too small for weather and traffic but after two flights, the last having some weather it is WELL WORTH IT. I'll try to post some pictures next time up as I did not bring a camera on the last flight but with the 88, the 430 has two additional screens. One for traffic and a separate one for weather. The other nice feature is the textual metars on one of the airport screens. I was flying into Greensboro (GSO) and just flipped to the airport page and one or two more clicks and there was the latest METAR, easy to read. If your destination does not have one then you have to key in the identifier of the nearest airport but that is no big deal with CLYDE flying the ariplane. SO.If you're reluctant to get ADS-B with your 430W, don't be. You will like what if gives you. I did not OPT for the Bluetooth connection (Flightstream) (another 1 AMU) but did have it wired in so I can get it installed if needed in 30 mins. I'll get the pictures up here ASAP. but I am REALLY pleased I spent the $. BILL
  9. We gave our older son a ride in Aluminum Overcast (EAA's 17) for his birthday one year. He sat next to a Vet who had been given the ride by his kids.. He had not been in a 17 since the war (he was a waist gunner). He told my son some great stories on that ride. BILL
  10. I bought and joined in same month. I was a charter member of the Beech Aero Club and looked for similar org here. I find this site most helpful. Bill
  11. The previous owner put in an STEC 30 with GPSS and Alt hold in 2008 at Lancaster (PA ?). Works great, I love it. He also put in (at the same time) GNS430W and a few other nice things... Was not cheap. BILL
  12. I was just there last Thursday, my AME has his office on the field so I fly to/from (33 mins) vs a 90 min drive. Where are you located ? What's the nearest airport. Bill
  13. My 40 pound mutt has no problem. My last flight she was relaxing on the hat shelf !! BILL
  14. I went several years ago. First time went to Vandenburg, rented car, purchased standard tkt and had a ball. 2nd time went to Peter Knight, friends car, stayed in hotel in Bradenton ? (same as first) std tkt, no problems. If I went again, I'd probably do Vandenburg again. BILL
  15. Right, unless the A/C is already registered to previous owner then it's just a 65 modification fee. BILL
  16. For aircraft station license go here: http://transition.fcc.gov/Forms/Form605/605.html Bill
  17. At last annual, I installed a M20 air/oil sep except the output I put into an empty water bottle. 17 hrs later I have only 2 drops of oil in the bottle so next time I'm in there we're taking it out and putting the original hose/tube back in. Found a good size oil leak on the prop governor fitting. Bill
  18. PUt the output of your shop vac in the exhaust pipe. Seal with rag and duct tape. Use liquid detergent and water mix to find leaks. Works great. can do same for intake. BILL
  19. Go here and click on the first one: http://marketline.squarespace.com/marketline-pdfs/
  20. I've been there several times (Martinsville).. GREAT FOOD and good prices and service and you park right out in front ! BILL
  21. My local A&P/IA rate is $80 but I get significant discount since I'm teaching him welding and do a lot of electrical diagnosis with him that I don't charge him for. I end up paying about $60 / hr. I use the same avionics shop as Bob (above). Bill
  22. I have not reset the mins on my clock in 2 years.. Only the hours in spring and fall. Bill
  23. I just put a new exhaust on in October ! We're (mech and I) are thinking fuel injection problem, perhaps hard/dry diaphragms. We're going to play more tomorrow, perhaps clean the injectors. BILL
  24. Time for the dogs to "vacation" at the local kennel. Thats what we do with our and they LOVE it. We found a kennel that specializes in vacations and really treats the dogs nice as compared to a vet and "boarding" them. You'll have enough room for the 3 of you in the J. Congrats.. Out 2nd grand child is due in October we found out last night ! BILL
  25. The last 2 landings I noticed a backfire when I pulled the throttle back on final. Was running around 1700 rpm and pulled back to idle.. .BANG. Got the mechanic on it today and we leaned out the idle a bit seemed to help but I can still make it do it bringing the rpm up to 2000 then smartly back to idle. Not every time but 4 out of 6. I can lean it out more and make it stop but then it runs rough near 2000 and if I enrichen to smooth out at 2000, the backfire will come back. Any ideas ? Bill
