  1. I also think the belly should be left off and agree let's try and get 5.00 toward the site maintenance so we don't have to worry about a fund drive later.
  2. Yes, welcome to the South Florida Mooney club. Experience is a great teacher. We had some problems with battery one, it turned out to be a bad ground. Before buying unneeded parts ☹️ (Don't ask) check the grounds.
  3. Been watching. I watch all the aircraft accident shows. I watch to learn. If it can happen to professionals .........
  4. We need to build a wall!
  5. No, $872 from Mooney.
  6. Spoke to them this morning. They were very nice, and for the record they do still manufacture the switch for Mooney International. Thanks for all your help.
  7. You guys are amazing I love this community. What a knowledge base! Will call today.
  8. Does anyone know who makes this switch for Mooney? Possible part number (not Mooney's I have that). Anyone have a picture of the part? There is no way a switch like this should cost that much money. Help
  9. Don, I agree with you 100% on this issue. I've taken my lumps before on this site for believing we should do everything possible to make each flight as safe for ourselves, our passengers, and people on the ground as possible. If that means additional expense and maintenance so be it. That's just my opinion. I would be willing to bet there have been injuries, and deaths involved in gear up landings.
  10. An Eagle pilot here also. What are you thinking about moving to? If I may ask.
  11. We purchased our Eagle with just over 1000 hours. At the first annual at Premier we did inspect the gear back assembly and there were noticeable metal shavings in there. They called us, we went down and looked at the shavings and replaced the parts needed. I believe it was a time limit part at that time, but even if it's not you should get in there and look at it. With ours, failure was inevitable at some time and it's not a part you want to malfunction if needed. Sometimes I am amazed at the CB attitude some on this board are so proud of. This is an expensive hobby, your lives as well as your families (as well as innocents on the ground) are at risk. Please be careful out there. I am a Mike Bush student and believe if it's not broke don't touch it, but look at it and make sure, if it's broken or wearing out .......
  12. Worth every penny
  13. That's not busy, in South Florida around the airports you can't seperate the traffic from one another. The display is almost worthless, unless it's yellow or red. That gets your attention.
  14. I did not have the pilot window open, that is the key to relieve the interior pressure. Thanks all.
  15. When we turn on our master our temps all come up. The JPI all read the ambient temp exactly, and they all match. The ship's CHT reads about 10 degrees higher.
  16. My instructor used to do that
  17. Interesting experience yesterday. Last year in route from Asheville to South Florida my wife noticed her hair being sucked out of the top of the door (bottom latch secure, top latch not so much). I told her I would slip the plane, we would open and then relatch the door. She freaked out at this plan so we flew the rest of the trip with the door half latched. Yesterday after take off I noticed the top latch was not engaged once again. It was a little noisier but nothing to worry about. After 10 minutes I desided to crab the plane and latch it correctly ( like I planned the year before but this time I was alone ). One word...Don't......The plan doesn't work in my Long Body Eagle. I slowed, crabed, unlatched the door and I immediately had a very noisy windstorm inside the cockpit as the door was now ajar about 4". There was no way using normal strength to pull the door closed enough to relatch. It was like having your head out the window only inside. I landed at the closest field having to yell out my intentions on the radio with my head ducked into the corner of the cockpit to be understood. I'm so glad I didn't try that with my wife aboard ( that would have been her last flight). Besides that it was an very enjoyable, uneventful flight.
  18. Did you add an item to the preflight: 1. Blow through relief tube to make sure clear
  19. I also own an Eagle (1999). I have looked at this upgrade for years, but we don't operate out of any short fields, fly 100% on the east coast ( no serious mountains ) and our flights are generally 1 - 3 hours. This 20 thousand dollar upgrade would save us 13 minutes on our long flights, and basicly no other benefit. I understand there are missions that would totally utilize the benefits of the STC but we don't fly them. There is also the benefit of flying a de-rated engine that should "theoretically require less maintenance in the long run and fly way past TBO. Just my .02
  20. Sweet"............
  21. It is California........
  22. How much was the labor to install the GDL 88? Looking to get one.
  23. so if i get to my base to final turn, turn toward the runway and continue decent to runway? If I still don't hear from tower execute a go around. This can be a busy training airport with people doing go arounds, touch and go's, taxi backs, as well as struggling with the English language. Sometimes the controller can be in a conversation with an approaching aircraft for a minute or so. The mooney covers a lot of ground in a minute, but I got my answer and in the future will fly a normal pattern and ??????
  24. Sorry to hijack.... I was doing pattern work today and asked to report mid field downwind on each cycle. On the 4th landing tower was talking to a foreign student approaching the airport and I could not break in until I was a mile past my base turn. He finishes with the student and yells at me for not turning base at the normal spot.........? ( " just fly your normal pattern") I was never cleared to land, why would I turn toward the airport, and if he want me to fly a normal pattern why does he want me to talk to him on each downwind? He can clearly see me from the tower. Was I in the wrong here?
  25. Had some recent work done on fuel transducer. The part was out of the plane for a week or so and when we put it all back together and ran the fuel pump the fuel we collected had a very dark blue color. It's dye. I would continue to sump the selector until color is normal. I be you haven't summed it in a long time. ****** I'm not a mechanic just a PP. I would ask a local mechanic just to be sure*****
