I can tell you here in South Florida the private towers, including the one at my home base, seem to be friendlier and more likely to assist.The federal towers are like dealing with the employees at the driver license office......... Everyone always resists change,. All change is not bad. Everything the government runs is not necessarily good. Lets see what they come up with before we get our knickers in a wad.

IMHO the postal service is loosing money because you can't move a letter across the country for .46 If they would charge (like every other private, unsubsidized business) what it actually cost plus a small profit they would not be in the hole. It's the governments remaining regulations on them that keeps them down. Look at what UPS and FEDEX charge to move an envelope across the country in 2-3 days. Post office is forced to provide service to every address, 6 times a week at an affordable price for all Americans.

Spoke to the clinic I use for all minor medical issues and I emailed the Basic Med package to them. They said they would b e happy to provide this exam for us. They are open 7 days a week and have evening hours every weekday. They ask to please call first to make sure Dr is in, they have a medical practitioner but he can't legally sign the form. I just sent the AOPA packet regarding the exam including all the forms to my primary Dr. He said no-problem. He told me to go ahead and list his info for any pilots, needing this sign-off. He is in South Florida so I'll list in in Florida flyers section. I would say just email the packet to your D, and see what he/she says.

Does anyone have experience with the paint shop at Okeechobee? I've heard good things about Hawk in Tampa. Going to need to paint soon and would like to find a quality local shop. Any experience would help.

Spoke to some engine rebuilders yesterday in Lakeland and they said there have been 2 failures (broken teeth) on these gears and both followed starter adapter failures. In all his rebuilds he has never seen a problem with this gear.

This is the same company that took my deposit and told me I would have a great GPS navigator within a year. 2 years later I purchased the GTN and got my money back from them. I agree for the 10k it would cost to but the Avidyne auto pilot head, you can get a whole system from Truetrack. They are very interested in the Mooney community, unlike Avidyne.

I spoke to them at their booth at Sun n Fun, and asked why they are ignoring us Mooney owners. He said get 50 Mooney's that want to upgrade and they will get the STC. He said it's about $500,000 to get. Now that they have 2 startup companies Nipping at their heals they are a little more responsive.

Whenever you allow government to intervene with the free market this is what you get.......every time. I hate to start this conversation but if there is only one FBO allowed at the field then prices (hangers, fuel, etc) will be higher. In a free market seeing this ridiculous high profit margin others will open and bring the prices back into line. Supply and demand will still make hangers in south Florida more expensive (2-3 times more) than many other places but competition will keep the local market fair. At my home field there was only one maintenance shop for quite a while and they charged top dollar. Sure you could go elsewhere but when free markets are allowed to exist you won't have to. Recently 2 or 3 new shops opened and everyones prices fell into line.
