  1. Nop - I was interested if he found a way on a stock 231. But thanks for your answer anyway :-)
  2. The 231 can be flown LOP very nicely and it in fact makes engine handling a lot easier. For what it is worth for you - having 6 jugs instead of 4 makes a smoother running engine
  3. I was in the same situation a couple of years back, decided for the 231 and never regretted it. Flying IFR in Europe the turbo really helps, because you usually get better routes when flying higher. Crossed the Alps with a friend in his NA B36 on a summer day last year. Climbing to 10.000ft took pretty long and had us divert to a shallower route - doing the same in the Mooney was a no brainer in FL160. I heard the same engine stories as you, but even with my GB I can keep the CHTs below 380 which is one major key for engine longevity. Engine management is definitely more complicated, but no black magic.
  4. Monroy Longrange Tank installation https://r.tapatalk.com/shareLink?share_fid=55491&share_tid=24793&url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww%2Emooneyspace%2Ecom%2Findex%2Ephp%3F%2Ftopic%2F24793-Monroy-Longrange-Tank-installation&share_type=t
  5. Just tried to visualize my thoughts. The first picture is with tanks half full where I understand the fuel gauge starts to read correct. The second one is with the outboard fuel sender (red dot)hittong the top skin. That looks to me that a recalibration should make it possible to get at least a descent reading up to a value of more than 72 and less than 100. Probably the 85 you mentioned Jose? Do I overlook something?
  6. How did you configure your EDM with the longrange tanks. Did you change the max fuel (72->100)? Did you recalibrate the senders? If so, how did you enter the values after the senders went to the max position?
  7. I know - Lasar is where I got the new bearings from. The problems are more customs, high shipping costs ( interestingly it is much more expensive to ship from the US to Europe than vice versa ... ) and long turnaround times. I might need to go that way when we don‘t succeed - but for the time being I keep my fingers crossed :-) Anyway, thanks for your help !
  8. I would love to send it to Lasar, but as I am based in Europe it is more complicated. I do intend to install new bearings and will take a close look at the shims.
  9. Thanks for the pics, Vance! They help a lot - hope we get it right next week ...
  10. I will do mine next week. Would you mind to share the pics? Can you also explain which measurements you took before disassembly?
  11. Can you tell us the price for the assembly?
  12. Can you tell how many hours it take for removal, cleaning and reinstallation?
  13. I read everything about them what I could find, but the questions from above remain open. As the 60h for installation are the biggest part of the equation I would like to understand better how they are composed and what probably can be done under supervision....
  14. I am deeply impressed about how good this magic word works ! The question is how much and especially what kind of work is required ? I understand that the estimated total time is about 60 hours, but how does this split up? Installation of fuel cap and reseal? Any additional metal work when the plane has speed brakes?
  15. I am wondering what kind of work is needed for th LR tank installation. Is it „only“ installing a new fuel cap, a hole to the main tank and reseal of the bays or is more involved? What is necessary if the plane has speed brakes?
  16. No, not really. Just from comparing the available area of both inlets I thought it might be beneficial as nearly half of the right side is covered. A look in the parts catalog made me think about it as it doesnˋt look very complicated - and it is just a evolution of the samy type certificate ...
  17. Does anybody know if there is a way to install a 252 aircleaner in a 231. That would of course require the installation of the air intake in the cowling and a modified baffling, but it might improve the cooling of the right hand side cylinders.
  18. I have been waiting for this for a couple of years. I even tried to get a bunch of people together. What I learned is that there was always a moving target of 5,6,7 ... of orders to get production started. It never materialized... I finally decided for Turboplus and the kit is on the way right now.
