  3. Just got an email from a good pilot friend of mine regarding the Obama administration has sent a memo to many federal agencys asking for ideas on how to increase revenues to the federal government. One proposal is for fees to renew pilots licenses yearly ,reported @ 20usd.But wait it get better..any pilot not flying at least 100 hrs a year would pay an additional 1oo usd to make up for fuel taxes the feds would otherwise recieve. This would apply to any additional licenses the pilot also has.For an IFR ticket ,it would be another 100 bucks for any pilot logging less than 10 hrs actual. And so on...the email refences nbaa president ed bolen as saying of all the stupid, silly a** proposals I have heard about, this one takes the cake!!!Hopefully this is all a hoax....anyone else heard anything along these lines....kp couch
  4. Did anybody else see the video of the guy using a hydralic engine hoist with dyno guage to test several different types of tie down stakes. The best at about 500 lbs was the cheapest..the screwin doggie anchor..the poorest at about 230lbs was the most expensive,...the claw that i almost bought at oshcosh. This test may only apply to sandy soils like found in florida...Has anybody tried hard calache type soils like we have out west...forget about screwing anything in that stuff, youd need a sledge hammer...kpc
  5. thanks for the report and am glad your a/c survived the blow!!!kpc
  6. I also see that he is (or was )a med student @ my old alma mater, georgetown univ.I bet he is on spring break and he is doing some heavy duty partying .As far as landing on beaches his technique leaves much to be desired. The idea is to try to parallel the beach just at the high tide line to get good firm sand. That usually implys an xwind landing with an on shore flow.He apparently landed directly toward the shore with a probable tail wind. With the salt water breaking over the wings...the warrior is trashed!!!..it is sad to see stuff like this,as it is apparent this kid has "lost it".Oh well if he thinks med school is too tough to handle ,it is better he finds(and the rest of the public)out about it now and change careers before he is allowed to exercise his questionable judgement..kp couch
  7. nice panel...just snt you a pm...kp couch
  8. I do a three part polish at every annual...mothers mag polish to get the serious oxidation than flitz followed by a coat of carnuba paste wax. Also I use a power buffer with a sheepskin bonnet on it...it will be jet black by the time your done. Also if the spinner is off the a/c at annual time i will use a bench lathe with polishing rag wheels to quickly buff out...but even with the wax sealer its always going to tarnish again...kpc
  9. I finally ,after a solid year of practice and real imc use feel confident in the 430/530 interface. It is not at all intuitive (like the 750 is supposed to be.The thing about not being able to directly program in a victor airway has been my biggest iritation. There is a program availble from airway planner.com(no I have no relationship to co.)and what it is ,is a pdf file listing every intersection on every victor airway in the us.Now,when i get a clearance to a victor airway ,I or my copilot looks up victor # and simply load in the compulsary intersections that make up all the twists and turns of an airway without having to unfold a chart...It has made a big difference and the program I carry on my iphone or ipad...kpc
  10. I couldnt agree more regarding a longbody landing habits compared to a Baron....I had no problem with skidding/bouncing ever in the 900 hrs I flew my d55 Baron. It was the oil/struts and about 10in of shock assorbing, also the flaps on a Baron, especially at full deployment much more effective.I would routinely put the Baron into strips that I now hesitate to go into with a Bravo....oh well I donot miss the 30gal per hour of the Baron vs 20 on the Bravo and of course the Bravo will up and show its tail to the Baron all day long..kpc
  11. I have about 50 hrs on a set of tempist(autolite) fine wires....no issues at all...kp couch
  12. well the newer bravos use 1/4 turn camlocs, dzus fastners not as popular because they are harder to install. All and all ,Id say I doubt you could get a field approval..kpc
  13. not to mention stuff that happens in the cabin.....sick rear seat passenger demanding attention, dropped chart in turbulence, loud noise ,anything that causes you to rotate your head,or look down at the cabin floor,or look back at your rear seat passengers...and its a case of the spins!!!Whoaa....what happened....so the rule is never turn your head anymore than whats required to maintain your scan...kp couch
  14. Waas enabled approaches are all I fly now...I have a choice between an ils and lpv approach to my home airport....the ils is better by 50 ft but the lpv is super stable...I choose it every time...kp couch
  15. God no!!!That would be torture and not at all necessary to determine condition...the accepted procedure is measure them for rebound 1/2 hr after jacking, look for crazing/cracking rubber, check to makesure they donot freely rotate...its all in the mooney 40 point inspection guide..you are using the inspection guide right???kp couch
  16. hey Scott, why dont you and Ross take this discussion off line...sinc kp couch
  17. David in order to download data from your jpi 700 you will need a m type to usp connector sold by kpi. There is no usp connector on the unit itself but mounted close to the unit you should be able to find a m stvle port and could be marked data. You will also need to download program from jpi and read your jpi 700 manual that explains performing a data dump.Ps....The tls/bravos should not be run above 1650 TIT and I know of some bravo drivers leaning to 1550 and accepting the resultant 20/21 gal cruise fuel burn ...changing out a bravo jug is expensive!!!..sinc kp couch
  18. It does indeed work,I have noticed the same airspeed penalty as Mike, about 7ish with that # better at altitudes over 17k,than the a/s loss is much smaller 3 or so according to my instrumentation.Total capacity at just over 6 gals is good for about 1.5 hr at max flow.Fluid cost if I buy 5gal jugs runs about 80 bucks shipped.I generally keep at least 2 gal aboard and top off if I am flying in icing conditions, which this winter is most of the time. One thing not mentioned...the titanium leading edge panels very "cool" looking but more importantly do not erode like painted leading edges in moderate rain.sinc kp couch
  19. Scubaman...even smaller world,I got my naui certification in 1976 @Dolphin swim school .KP Couch
  20. No doubt the Saratoga pilots tcas was showing a target that he thought was you, probably miles away ,and he had his head in the cockpit concentrating on his tcas display while the real danger was coming at him at a combined closure rate of 300 miles an hour!!!!You were so close that his airframe blanketed his Tcas antenna...I bet he never really had you as a target!!!!whew..kpc
  21. I have noticed that every post on this subject assumes the engine completely quits...that is rarely the case...just run the tank down that you want and as your tank gets close to empty start monitoring fuel pressure. As the fuel level gets close to empty /usable fuel it will unport the fuel pickup but not totally...you will have plenty of warning by monitoring your fuel pressure guage...it will start to flicker and the engine will start to run rough if you wait to long, switch tanks at first fuel pressure fluctuation and with boostpump on the engine never quits completely...kpc
  22. Mark...new scat tubing when heated by hot air off the muffler schroud can emit a "plastic smell".Also any orange high temp rtv used can also smell "sour".Some people are really sensitive to smells and you may be detecting smells other people including your mechanic just wouldnt notice.Either way ,the smell will probably go away after whatever plasticizers "cookoff",it just will take time,I wouldnt worry about it and chalk it up to one of those "aircraft engine smells " that come off high temp aircraft engines ....sinc kpc
  23. Scubaman.....small world...hanger 104 ,north hangers....kpc
  24. Jolie as usual you have done and are actually doing what many of us "talk"about doing but never seem to get arround to putting our pens where are mouth is.Congratulations on a simple, well thought out article. Please do not be discouraged by some of the negative opinions expressed in prior posts on this thread. We live in a democracy ,and sadly there will always be the "sayers" expressing their opinions on the "doers"sinc kp couch
  25. hi scubaman...welcome to Mooney Madness....regarding your checklists....Have you looked for one right in the g1000 itself???I see you have an 07 and Mooney supplied electronic checklists in the checklists menu of the G1000.I believe this is the case because Don Kaye sent me a checklist file we Bravo users have our 696 s....it is a Garmin checklist program that was written for late model Mooneys with g1000...I bet sellis from the factory could comment on this...good luck...ps I see we are almost neighbors...where are you based????sinc kp couch
