  1. You are going to be at the lower end of the acceptable range either way. AGC will take of the rest. With the active antenna it is a little different situation than a com or nav antenna where you want to pull every last bit of the possible signal out.
  2. Read the install manual and it will most likely give and min and max loss for the cable assembly. The mooney cable is going to be on the short end of what is allowed so the small extra loss would still be well within the acceptable range. Also the antenna is an active antenna, not passive. It would be interesting to know how BNC connectors became the standard for aircraft, other than they are cheap. N style screw on connectors are much more robust.
  3. I think a couple of the tubes in the side were increased 1 sized in wall thickness
  4. True to Mooney Speed, this little guy arrived a few weeks early on my birthday. He is doing well.
  5. 321 is a common alloy used for aircraft exhaust .
  6. I replaced my KMA20 with a used Garmin 340 about 2 years ago. Then about 6 months ago I found a good deal on a slightly used PS8000BT unit which was a slide in replacement for the 340. The 340 was a huge improvement over the KMA20 and there was some additional improvement with the PS800BT. You are going to have to replace all the wiring from the KMA 20. Its a very labor intensive job just running and connecting all the new wires. I probably spent close to 30 hrs or more doing it.
  7. There is more damage than just the steering link. The truss tube appears to be crushed as well. There may also be other damage anywhere between the front wheel and rudder. I would tell them I wanted it inspected and repaired by a 3rd party who was familiar with the Mooney linkages.
  8. What the original poster posted sounds like the sniffle valve may be gummed up.
  9. Anywhere that sells lycoming parts has them. If I remember correctly just add a P003 to the end of part number. Check with aircraft specialties or call aero in stock.
  10. I would not install the trays with nuts. Take a little extra time and put rivet nuts in the holes or use nutplates.
  11. The op mentioned the stud was removed and reinstalled. How tight was it when putting back in? Lycoming has a min driving torque for most is their studs. Also .001, .003 and possibly .006 oversized studs are available. The stud will be looser at temp than at ambient.
  12. Knife splices. Spruce sells them.
  13. I've had an uncertified portable SkyGuard unit for a few years that up until last January was sending out a zero. In January they were allowed to upgrade their software to send something greater than zero but less than 3. This allowed them to continue to trigger traffic updates.
  14. Eufaula has a good restaurant. Also meeting up at SERFI would be a option since it is the same weekend. There is usually a wings seminar Friday night and hotel rooms /camping for anyone who wants to go the night before.
  15. According to the ntsb report the plane settled onto the runway and stayed with 400-500 ft of runway remaining. Standing on the brakes and let it go off the end of the runway would likely have resulted in only minor injuries.
  16. Read the policy very carefully. The one I have says no instruction unless it is advanced instruction for a named pilot.
  17. Why did the ADSB not show him until he was so close. It seems it should have showed him decending and overtaking you from above and behind. What alert settings do you have set?
  18. As we told you before, a check ride with a good examiner will be more of a learning experience than a pass/fail test.
  19. I found a 201 cowl and baffling a few years ago for $700. A little later I found a freshly overhauled engine mount for $200 and spinner for $400. The FSDO seems receptive to doing a field approval and I've also talked to a DER with structural and power plant authority who will approve it. Doing the work myself I should have less than $2k involved when finished. The 201 cowl looks nice, but I also really think I will miss the easily removable side panels. That's the nice thing about the swta and David's is that they keep the side panes.
  20. Master cylinders are the same, both pedals are different. There are not many planes that have them. If I remember correctly ones from a newer plane may use larger diameter bolts for some of the bolts.
  21. I was able to find all the used parts needed to install the dual brakes several years ago and instal them. The new kit was around 3k plus install. I think I had about $500 in the used parts. Unfortunately I don't think the factory kit will work in your 65E. It wasn't until latter that the factory begain welding in the mounting brackets when they built the cages as standard equipment. The kit only works with higher serial number E models.
  22. The critical thing any time there is reason to believe airport length may be an issue is to pick a pre determined point on the ground and say if I don't have the wheel firmly planted on the ground by this point I'm going around. Don't continue floating along trying to save the landing or trying to decide if you should go around. The go around point should be selected in advance, not as your flairing to land. I've went into some under 2,000 ft grass strips doing this and have yet to have a scare.
  23. The rod bolts on the angle valve engines are not torqued to a final value. They are torqued until they stretch to a specific length and the torque required to accomplish this can fall within a pretty wide window.
  24. Check to make sure the engine monitor is grounded directly to the engine and not behind the panel. If the oil temp is really 260 there will be a very noticeable drop in oil pressure.
  25. I believe you will see the same result if they are air cooled or water quenched. One advantage of the water is that it will likely remove any oxides that have built up on the outer surface and leave them looking cleaner than an air cool. I have several sets and collect them up until I'm almost out and then stick them in the oven at work for a few minutes.
