  1. Paul, you will find the answer to the situation you described at the end of chapter 3 under departures in the link I posted above. There are certain conditions you can go ahead and depart. I also believe they have a second freq available
  2. I've noticed many times it takes them a very long time to respond. We have another member here who is stationed there and may know more or I can ask my former instructor who is an AF pilot there.
  3. https://www.faasafety.gov/gslac/ALC/course_content.aspx?cID=47&sID=279&preview=true All departing VFR aircraft MUST CONTACT EGLIN CLEARANCE PRIOR TO TAKEOFF for departure instructions, a discrete squawk, and Departure frequency.
  4. It's just south of me. I'm VFR and have always set and waited for the clearance at the end of the runway as the sign says. It takes a while sometimes. Their is a online class or bulletin you can take on flying into Destin. I think it was part a the wings program.
  5. Mine only has 2 long ribs. I did not see any speed change in either direction.
  6. I looked in my install manual this morning. The mod adds 10 lbs with no moment change. The guy who owns the STC is still around, but he had a partner who was doing the fiberglass work who passed away a few years.
  7. I have all the paperwork and talked to the guy who made them a couple of years ago. He owns a flight school that uses Mooney aircraft and developed the belly as a result of several gear ups.
  8. They made a couple of different versions of the ribbed panel. Some of them only have 2 ribs while other have 4.
  9. I have the same one. It requires removing one crossmember and trimming another so these would have to be replaced so the panels would have somewhere to mount to.

  11. There are 2 high density 44 pin connectors on the back of the rack that would have to have the wires and pins added to them. These connectors are referred to as j1 and j2. You could make up a short wire with the pins crimped on it and just insert it into the pin 13 and 14 position on the j2 connector or use some longer wires and add a remote switch to change the mode. The pins and wire can be purchased from lane-pilot or stein air. Since you likely don't have the crimpers they would probably crimp them for you if asked.
  12. Newer vector signal generators have the bandwidth to spoof the entire gps or glonass band with a single wideband transmission. National Instruments provides a toolkit for labview that takes care of all the low level stuff so the person doing it doesn't need any technical knowledge of the gps system. It will reproduce the signals from all the satellites as a composite wide band signal allowing you to control what each one does individually. You give it a starting point, speed and direction and it builds up the IQ files and streames them to the vector signal generator. The trial version can be downloaded free for 30 days. It works very well. I tried it out in one of our screen rooms a few years ago and could make my cell phone think it was anywhere I wanted it to be and moving at any speed and direction I wanted it to.
  13. That's the difference in the left coast and rural Alabama. CfII's also work for $25-30hr around here.
  14. The display just plugs into a socket. Often reseating it will fix the missing segments. Just remove the front to access it.
  15. It depends on the area and if they have another day job. In my area there are several who will come to your hanger for $25 hr CASH. Most of them have day jobs at local military base.
  16. Many of the things you mentioned has correction factors inside the edm that must be entered as par of the install process. This is covered in the install and operation manuals.
  17. One of the coils may be breaking down and arcing between windings internally. The new caps may have been able to hide it for a flight or so until the arcing got worse.
  18. Read through your logs and see if you have the interav alternator conversion. If so these are not adjustable and my output increased in voltage as the regulator aged. It uses a separate over voltage relay. Plane power makes a replacement regulator which has the over voltage built in and is cheaper than the original regulator or over voltage relay.
  19. The little inspection hole is there to verify that the wire stayed inserted the correct depth during crimping.
  20. I have the same crimper show on steinair's website and it works well on machined dsub and hd dsub pins as long as the depth is adjusted correctly. Depth is adjusted by turning the threaded end a few turns in either direction while the more expensive DMC crimpers have a different fixed positioner for each contact. DMC Crimpers can often be found on eBay. If your switching from dsub to hd dsub the wire has to be 22 gauge or smaller.
  21. Let the owner deliver it to you with closing occurring at delivery.
  22. The cover and threaded hole are standard on an unpressurized slick mag.
  23. For those that are having trouble getting them signed try going to a walk in clinic. Look for one that has young foreign doc's. They will not have the same legal fears as an older established doc who has his own practice.
  24. The search function will provide a lot of relative information if the sellers info is entered, both here and on the NTSB. You can read about the Mooney that was underwater for a few days, and then sold in pieces by the salvage company. It was then put back together without engine or avionics dissamembly and then attempted to be sold as no damage history with no mention in the logs of any of it. When that didn't work it was repainted and renumered in an attempt sell it. You can also read about the ferry permitt death trap he put his son in down in Panama City that killed him. You can read about numerous other Faa enforcement action and them taking his A&P license. Just a few things to think about.
  25. Cell towers main lobe is radiated horizontally. There are some secondary lobes that are directed upward and outward that are very weak and have some dead space between them. Because of this once your are more than a few thousand feet your phone is going to start picking up several towers that are many miles away rather than ones directly under you.
