  1. The kit I mentioned above comes with a new statoseal. The Cleveland cylinders uses a small spring to keep the statoseal seated against its sealing surface.

  3. Yes. They need a certain amount of friction and heat the 1st time they are used. If they glaze over they will never stop very well. Rapco and Cleveland both publish break-in procedures. I was breaking in a new engine and pads at the same time, so the engine got priority. The pads seemed to turn out fine thought.
  4. Here is the outline dimensions. I think it sticks out about 1/2". I can measure next time I'm at the plane. I would basically go down 1" below the round hole. 730_layout.pdf
  5. The rectangular display on the 830 is offset from the 3-1/8 round hole, so it looks like it would fit if the display is turned downward. It would cover the top part of your checklist. JPI has a drawing with dimensions on their website
  6. I have the JPI 830 and am happy with it. I purchased at Oshkosh and got the show discount. If a sensor goes bad or wire breaks, that part of the display will go blank. The install took about 2 days.
  7. I used a trans-cal encoder, but I was putting in a new system and selected it for size and the fact that it supported both serial and parallel output. If your replacing a current encoder the cheapest option will be to use the same one that you already have so it is just a plug in replacement. http://www.trans-cal.com/
  8. Get your mechanic to get it back up on jacks and disconnect the gear doors and see if that helps. If thats not the problem, then the belly needs removing and everything needs lubing. With the belly off each wheel can be disconnected from the J-Bar to determine which one is causing the problem. With the disconnected, you should be able to move each gear leg freely from under the plane. This is also how to to work the oil into all the rod ends and joints. After getting everything moving freely the preload will need to be reset.
  9. There is a T fitting for each wing in the baggage compartment down close to the floor on the pilot side. You can hook up a handheld vac pump (Autozone) up there and pump up to 5 psi vacuum. It should hold the 5 psi and not leak down. The ones in the wing are not fun to get out. If it just rolls in one direction and don't want to stop, the leak is on the side it rolls toward.
  10. Some things use serial input and others use parallel input. Some encoders output both. Anytime the encoder is replaced you also have to redo your 2 year cert.
  11. Yes, but the text describes the problem as when the J bar is down close to the floor. "Anyone have any ideas why the bar would be so tough to secure once it's 2 inches from the floor? "
  12. The problem he is having is that the gear is getting tight as the wheels go up into the wheel wells. I don't see how the gear preload could affect this. This seems to be more of a binding or rubbing problem to me. I would suggest jacking the plane up and disconnecting the gear doors so you can see what is going on. You could also disconnect each wheels control rod from the jbar and swing and lub each wheel indivudally to see if you an find out what is binding. It could just be that it hasn't been lubed in a long time.
  13. I was thinking it was on the bottom, but I'm not completely sure about that. It is largest hex on the filter adaptor. The hex is fairly thin and should be safety wired. It is screwed into the round part of the housing that sticks out. There are few service bulletins on these. I think the internal nut was coming off or something.
  14. It is screwed in to the oil filter adaptor. It has a large thin bolt head on it.
  15. I'm looking at a cabin cover for ocasional use when traveling. Does anyone have any experience with www.planecovers.com? How do they compare to Bruces covers?
  16. I used it to replace the old interav regulator and overvoltage relay on my F model. I'm not sure if it is PMA approved for the J or not. I used the plane power R1224.
  17. I replaced mine last month. The Plane Power unit is about $100 cheaper than the Zeftronics, so I used it.
  18. Look on the nose gear doors and see if the door is touching the tire as it closes. The last couple of inches of travel is where the clearance is the smallest.

  20. Sorry, I'm an Engineer, not an English major. The person who owns the Mooney only flight school also owns an STC for the 1PC belly. He told me that he had even made a prototype with two triangular shaped runners on the bottom of it so it would hold the prop up off the ground in case of a gear up landing. http://home.comcast.net/~brianvogel/fleet.htm

  22. There is a flight school in Colorado that only uses Moonies. They also own a couple of Mooney STCs.
  23. Why not make up a couple of different option that you think would work and post screenshots for everyone to vote on.
  24. We have a lot of military rotorwing training up here also. They will fly across the last 1/3 of a 3000 ft runway @50' above the treetops. You can't see them until your above the trees.
  25. The wing leveler is a simple system. It consist of the turn coordinator, 4 servos and on off valve. You will also have to find the 4 mounting brackets for the servos, so your best bet may be to look for a salvage plane to get the entire system from. The wing servos and bracket are in a very tight place to get to.
