  1. I would(no pun intended) say the wing and airframe has zero valve. Someone stated in a earlier post that someone was giving a M20A away for free. You have a higher time engine with a value of 8-10K and a propeller of 6-8K. If you have basic avionics then I would put the valve at 18k or less. It's a good value if the plane in is decent shape.
  2. I'm on my 3rd A model. I can say my previous A models were slower than my present A. I would think it would be because of rigging. My present A flies really nice where my past A's had a heavy wing and I could never rig them to fly straight hands off. Also my present A has a plexiglass cover over the landing light. The air inlet on the right side has been recessed and I also have the Top Prop propeller. I'm not sure if it those upgrades have any benefit or not.
  3. 2450 RPM at 10,500 150 kts true airspeed.
  4. In addition to removing inspection panels. Every annual the auxiliary fuel tank under the rear bench comes out. You need to remove fairing panels between fuselage and wing. Remove flap gap seals. Remove wing control surfaces including flaps. Inspecting the wood is the easy part once everything is taken off(Maybe 30 minutes of my IA's time). If you got the time and you like working on your own airplane it's really not a bad deal. I bought my A model for $12,500 and it has speeds close to a J model. If you have to pay someone to do all that work at annual time then probably not worth it.
  5. Start by grabbing the flap brackets. They should be rock solid. Bad sign if any movement. The flap bracket aft of wing walk next to step can have the glue joints come loose from years of walking on wing walk. Plywood under wing walk can also come loose for the same reasons. If no rot then it can be reasonably repaired. If the rest of the flap brackets are loose then probably rot and it would be best to avoid. Take your finger tips and tap various areas on top of the wing along the ribs which should feel solid. You don't want to feel plywood loose from a rib. The most suspect area of plywood coming loose from ribs will occur at rear of wing by the flap gap seals. If the wing seems solid after looking then you can have someone with wood wing and fabric experience do a detailed inspection.
  6. I believe the B hub is the one that doesn't require the eddy current AD.
  7. Get a Hartzell Top Prop. Call and shop around. I saved around $1,000.00 by doing so. I think I paid $7,800.00 a few years ago. I'm not sure what they're going for now.
  8. The deck you stand on is big. There are different modes which can be programed so that the ride is more gentle. It took me 5-10 minutes to get use to the jerkiness of the throttle. Other then that it's not to difficult to use. There's lots of videos and reviews online.
  9. The scooters have top of the line LG batteries and they are fully encased in aluminum. I feel safe as long as they're not powered up.
  10. Since we are talking about folding bikes in the Mooney I thought I'd share the folding scooters I recently purchased. Voro Emove Cruisers. With a blanket and 2 tiedown straps they fit pretty good. They are heavy. 52 lbs a piece. They go 30 MPH and have a 60 mile range on a full charge. Plus they are Mucho fun!
  11. I've flown in the right seat of this airplane when it was based at KVGT. At the time this airplane was in excellent condition. The previous owner let it go and built a RV10. It's very surreal to hear the events of this Mooney. To those that past away may they RIP.
  12. Nothing on my CO monitor but I noticed ash in the cockpit with my overhead vents open. At first I thought I had a bad case of dandruff. Visibility in Northern Utah and SE Idaho was about 3 miles.
  13. Place a InOp place card sticker on the AI instrument until you decide what you want to do.
  14. I have 1 servo mounted in the middle of the right wing just inboard of the aileron.

  16. My A model has field approval for a Pathfinder P2A autopilot from the 70's. I know the Pathfinder AP is STC'd for E and J. I'm not sure if that's of any help. I've also seen a M20A with a Brittain ACCU-Trac.
  17. Pretty amazing collection. Most of you probably know the story of the Mormon Mustang in WW2. If not I thought I'd mention that the Mormon Mustang shot down a ME-262. Really cool story to listen to when the P51 pilot Roland R. Wright was interviewed on the radio after the event.
  18. I noticed your plane on the ramp at KVGT. The 185 on the tail really stood out.
  19. Should be a quick trip. 30 knot tailwinds. I'm flying this afternoon from Las Vegas to Pocatello Idaho. Very seldom do I these kind of wind behind me. Should be fun. Enjoy your flight and may the winds always be behind you.

  21. Interesting event to think about. My thought would be to stay in the left seat and reach over with my right hand to control the plane. I might have to practice the situation incase the event ever repeats itself.
  22. I had the same experience when I called Mooney and they transferred me to Bill Wheat. He started telling me some cool history about my M20A.
  23. I have the skybeacon on my Mooney and I have the tailbeacon on my Experimental. Both work problem free. As others mentioned above the tailbeacon hardware screws for the mounting plate didn't fit my tail light mount. The screw diameter was to small. I had to find backing nuts that fit the smaller diameter screws.
  24. I would clean the cable and contacts between the starter and solenoid. They might be dirty or have corrosion.
