  1. It is a C14 Hartzel. I can get the serial number when I go to the hangar. It is off my M20A
  2. I ended up putting a new 3 blade on. Nearly out of the shop and back in the air. I still have the old spinner and blades that passed inspection. Is there any market for these or are they wall hangers now?
  3. I will be putting the propeller upgrade kn hold as we found some wood rot and a broken bracket for the flaps. Going to open her right up and take a really good look before spending too much money
  4. I have a 1959 M20A. I have had her about a year. Great little plane, not many of them north of the border
  5. If I decide to go with a new one, I a considering the McCauley B3D36C424 as the lead time is only 5-6 weeks. Getting a new Hartzel HC-C2YR-1B has a lead time of end of January.....hopefully. They can't promise that time line. The McCauley is another $2000USD, but my prop shop says they can overhaul the McCauley cheaper because they are much more simple and less ADs. I see there are a few used Hartzels out there that do peak my interest. Especially with the B hub which require and Eddy current test every 100hrs. I would prefer to stick to a 2 blade just because of the added weight of the 3 blade, but I am open to anything.
  6. I recently sent in my old prop with an old C14 hub for inspection. The hub was found to have a crack. I know finding a replacement hub is like trying to find a unicorn. I would ideally love to find a hub and get back in the air, but that doesn't seem likely. My prop shop has recommended a Hartzell C2YR or a 3 blade McCauley. Coughing up the money is a painful pill to swallow for a new one. Is there any good place to look for used props? I have a certified M20A in Canada
  7. So I made the jump and purchased the M20A. So far everything has turned out good. The pre buy didn't turn up anything that wasn't expected. However, upon taking possession of the documents I noticed that the POH was hand typed out by his wife (looks like on an old typewriter). He said the old one got damaged so his wife retyped it. Where can I find a new one?
  8. I understand how to compare one plane to another. What I was asking is does this seem reasonable? It is the only A model I have been able to find for comparison. I have been able to find B and C models but not A and I realize they aren't a fare comparison. The only reason an M20A interests me is a family friend offered to sell me his, with the hangar. They are both on the same airport I currently keep my C150
  9. I haven't been able to find much information on price for the M20A. Does anyone know what they would be roughly worth? Have only found 1 on Controller in Alberta. Asking $50 000CAD. Is that reasonable? I figured you could get a B or C model for that price.
  10. I would most definitely get a pre buy inspection before purchasing. The plane has been hangered since he purchased it in the early 90s. The hangar is also part of the deal. I am aware of the whole wood vs aluminum debate and it does factor into my consideration. Os there anything in particular I should be looking for with these aircraft?
  11. I have beenconsidering an upgrade to something a little bigger and a little faster. A friend and local pilot just offered me his 1959 M20A. I had never considered a Mooney and no very little about them. The wooden wing concerns me as far as maintenance and there is not a lotof information that I have been able to find. The plane looks good. The books seem in order and the price seems reasonable. A bonus is that the plane comes with the hanger. I would appreciate any and all information anyone would like to share
