  1. Just need a good way of electrically insulating the carbon fiber from the important bits. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  2. Mmm... Dinner/dessert Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  3. Had my first flight with new pucks on Sunday. I would have otherwise had a less than stellar plant on the runway that felt oh so smooth. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  4. I'm stuck at work all week ... Wish I was there. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  5. Inquiry will only tell. Or maybe not. However, on an IFR plan in VMC as PIC in the most maneuverable airplane in the world... Why oh why start a standard rate turn oh so gently to avoid the traffic you clearly don't have a visual reference to and the controller is imploring to avoid. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  6. Yes Chris there are owner assist programs for most major kit manufacturers where you can go to the factory and participate in the build with experienced people looking after you. They are careful about doing "49%" of the work so the owner can be issued a repairmans certificate and the kit can still qualify as a home build instead of a factory build. Perhaps someone with direct experience can chime in ... BTW if I could build a carbon Fiber J kit airframe using a diesel power plant, cut the empty weight, increase useful load and keep all of the wonderful aerodynamic characteristics that we love Id be a very happy pilot. I'm imagining a true 4-place (not a 3 place trainer) doing 160 kts on 8 gal/hr of jet-a with a 1000 lb useful load. The modern materials and technology have the potential to improve the efficiency that sets the J apart and perhaps add a little something extra Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  7. I did the same a couple of years ago with a Bruce's cover. They honored the OSH price. Why don't we continue with this one as the CB thread ??? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  8. I also have a customized checklist that I keep in the foreflight documents tab. I use it and love it as it is easy to reference. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  9. LASAR attacks... Of modded and PMA'd mooney parts. In all seriousness it will be too soon when some idiot with a drone takes down an aircraft. Violations of The FARs should be prosecuted t the fullest extend possible with regard to UAVs or to the same extent as manned aircraft. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  10. I was reading a notice of proposed rule making (I couldn't sleep) from the mid 90's when the FAA clarified their stance on what qualifies as standard parts and what qualifies as needing an STC or PMA. I am not an aviation bureaucrat but rules made exceptions for items that had organization standards applied (IEEE was used as an example for transistors or other things that go in your avionics) and/or met a TSO. It seems that before part 23 was changed that lightbulb were considered standard parts and afterward they were not. Maybe it's just a &£^* lightbulb and maybe it's more than that. 11. You should not have any problem transitioning to a mooney. More will happen in a shorter period time (Ie planning required) and you can't fudge your numbers like you can with C/P single being fast or high on final, but that's about it. My transition was from a Arrow to a J, and that was very straightforward. I more remember thinking "so this is how an airplane should fly". You'll love it. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  12. There's a torque value printed on the filter. I use that and safety. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  13. Hi all For those of us who can't make it to Oshkosh this year, would the attendees be willing to report back on any worthwhile OSH sales, deals, or group buys that you can find in this tread? Really anything you think might be useful to the group and in support of the CB club members who are stuck at home/work. Thanks! Brad Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  14. At least they make you trim in the right direction ... Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  15. My memory aid is Amsterdam. The red-light districts are in leftist cities. This is when sitting in the pilot seat. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  16. Once confirming when I engage the lever, another verification on short final "gear down , cleared to land". Over the fence is the critical time. Too many verifications and I'm bending down to look at the floor light and not keeping my head up. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  17. What are you looking to move to Eric? Aerostar! ? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  18. So these are also not PMA'd replacement bulbs, but they include LEDs on the most outboard aspect of the paddle as well on the aft end of the paddle. They also are steady only with no flash, so no issues with placarding. They do not however note the output at various angles and I don't have a sense of what the viewing angle is in the vertical axis. They seem like a far better alternative to the Navstrobe offering. http://www.aircraftspruce.com/catalog/elpages/lednavlightsreplacement.php?clickkey=1043281 http://youtu.be/AGPJfBmloH8 Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  19. I once had the $hit scared out of me departing BCB, which also has a training route running right through it. I was just climbing out of pattern altitude when two jets crossed under me from behind at what I would describe as 2-3 times my groundspeed a couple of hundred feet below. Nothing on CTAF. To the military guys ... What rules govern flight along military training routes? Airspeed below 250 below 10k? Is radar used in conjunction with see an avoid ? Are the routes briefed in terms of what types of traffic you might see near civilian airports? Also ... You would think these things would be designed to avoid populated areas and civilian airports. 20. New announcement for stratus 2s from Appareo. Apparently this one has pressure altitude sensing. No word on whether this will be TSOd as a blind encoder for their new transponder. If so would be a decent idea. Brad http://www.appareo.com/meet-the-new-stratus-portable-receivers/ Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  21. I purchased an application sprayer for this purpose. Haven't yet tried it out but will report back with my experience. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  22. Taking care of the sick kids in the ICU. Lamenting Stone Age schedules that involve 30 hr sleepless shifts. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  23. ... Anyone have them powder coated.? I had mine repainted recently but didn't work out so well. Need either a chemically resistant coating or am I coated finish as above. . Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  24. I like using the feature in fltplan.com. Enter the basic info and it gives you an intuitive depiction as per the POH graphical depiction. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  25. Was it just the first generation of the stratus that suffered from overheating issues during flight or does the second generation also have this issue? How does that compare with the GDL-393D.? I think I convinced the accountant (Mrs) that one of these AHRS ADSB receivers would be useful and have used fore flight for a few years now, but am willing to go with Garmin if it's truly a better product. Also trying to conceive how the in side might integrate with the 2020 transponder b.s. that I am forcing myself to think about now. For that the 1090es Appareo xpdr is certainly an interesting concept. I'd be more interested if the unit had some sort of out capability to display on panel mount avionics, which would put it above Trig or KT74s Imo. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
