I had my Missile exhaust rebuilt by Rocket Engineering about two months ago. They could probably do it for you too.- 4 replies

Hi Alejandro- I have a Missile, which is the NA brother to the rocket. My exhaust was shot (cracked), which was discovered this year at Annual (December). We called rocket engineering, as the exhaust on the missile is unique and was fabricated by Rocket Engineering. My A&P boxed up the old exhaust, sent it to them, and they rebuilt it within a few weeks. Cost was about the same as any other exhaust refurb/rebuild. They are still giving 100% support for the rocket and missile STC’s good luck with the Rocket- those are awesome machines!

Dicey weather over the sierras- they catapult moist cold air up pretty darned high... much like the cascades. You can almost count on mod-severe icing above those mountains in the winter time.. sometimes up well into the flight levels

3 options to stay warm(er) at higher altitudes or colder oat’s: 1- wear more layers & Pack some hand warmers, toe warmers. 2- buy something with a more robust heating system. Maybe a turbine engine and cabin pressurization. 3- an airline ticket. be thankful it’s not normally that cold at 21-23! That’s pretty cold

I thought for sure garmin was going to certify a G3X touch version... but after they released the 500txi, and the G5...now I’m not so sure- mainly just because they may view the release of a G3X-ish type unit as taking more sales away from potential 500txi or G5 buyers. But, we’ll see!

Yep- basically flipping it.

I see one major possible cause here.... reading alone doesn’t necessarily paint the picture. how many people use their EFB alone as their “weather brief”? I’ve seen it on you tube videos... people have stated so much on this website... and I’ve been guilty of it too... but when real weather is out there. Storms, layers.. pretty much anything that is painted on a radar... a pilot *NEEDS* to talk to a weather briefer. Some do. Some don’t. But they all should (myself included). Because the TAF’s alone, and radar picture alone don’t REALLY paint the total picture. To think any of us can make an objective decision without the total picture... it’s short sighted at the very least. Complacent and arrogant at the worst. *****I personally don’t know if this pilot did or did not call for a weather brief... just a suspicion... this rant is more due to some of the things I’ve subjectively noticed on beechtalk, YouTube, here.. other pilot internet sources... seems like pilots don’t seem to value a real briefer much anymore... had too many friends fall to preventable mishaps in aviation... don’t want to see any others. Especially in GA- where this is supposed to be FUN! and safe.********

How much flight time was that? I’m assuming a mooney specific CFI- as you travelled to go do it? the only place where I can think of that it would cost that much to stay and get fuel would be the Bay Area.... Don K perhaps?

Funny you say that... landed after a student pilot in a 172 on 25R at DVT a few weeks back.... I cleared at A9... about 2000’ down... and was talking to ground before the 172 turned off the runway at A5- another 1500’ down the runway! Who says Mooney’s are slippery?!?!
-
A man’s got to know his limits.... or... as a good friend of mine once said to me... if you absolutely have no time table to keep whatsoever: travel by GA. That will keep you out of trouble.

Not concerned at all, if it’s a stable front/mass. If it’s not stable- turbulence, thunder storms, icing probable... then I’m concerned. But rain itself is not a big deal. I have seen rain and ice damage paint and canopies... but not at speeds less than 200 knots.
-
<sigh>... another one... totally unnecessary... all it takes is some planning and a solid and objective go/no-go decision making process. I can almost hear the rationalization... “I’ve done it before...”... “the forecasts are always worse than the actual weather.”....”all I have to do is get above it”....”I know it’s clear 30 miles to the (pick a direction)”.... “this (pick a system) can get me through anything”.... sad.... Mother Nature... icing, thunder storms, wind shear... don’t care what you pilot, or how experienced you are... and she doesn’t give second chances (often).

I’m wondering what most people pay per hour for their CFI, and if they use a mooney specific CFI? Also, if they get a flat rate for a BFR or not.

I think so- if that’s accurate... because it’s completely illegal by FAA standards to “fly” an ILS approach without any ILS reception! im willing to bet it’s a misunderstanding of some sort though- I’d doubt a system could be certified that would claim to be shooting one type of approach, when in reality it’s shooting something else. Stranger things have happened though...

Really? Or is it an input from a GPS that the GFC couples too... and the pilot sets the input. On a 430W, from what I remember, you can load the gps with an ils approach... but it’s only for advisory- or you can switch it over to the actual approach (nav) and fly it the legal way. seems silly that garmin would have its autopilot only able to couple to a GPS signal.. or worse- use a nav input that isn’t the primary nav input being flown (couple to gps when ils/nav is selected as primary). Disclaimer- I don’t own any garmin stuff.

That’s minimum to declare yourself legal for FIKI flight, yes. I’m willing to bet most FIKI TKS tanks are close to empty in the summer time though. dont get me started on the whole idea of a FIKI qualification.... kind of like a helmet law to me... some states make it a legal requirement, some don’t... I’d rather ever rider has the freedom to make their own decision. If one is so unconcerned about their safety as to not wear a helmet.. or launch/fly into unsafe conditions... they will ultimately be held accountable for their own actions. I don’t think the government *needs* to step in to make those decisions... I wonder what CAV is paying in liability insurance... their product must work: they haven’t been sued into oblivion (yet), which is shocking for an aviation company!

Like the all aluminum (no paint) one with no engine? or were you referring to the pilots (like me)!

You don’t need a gpss adapter with an Aspen- it’s built in. You would need it with a garmin if you wanted that functionality. the aspen series is more capable than the garmin G5- In functionality, features and upgradability. The G5 does provide garmin users a low(er) cost option than their G500 panel mount line. I do believe the G5 was specifically designed and released to take back market share from Aspen. Regardless- I’d wait until the Aspen max comes out and then go down that road. If you absolutely must buy one now (AI failed?) then the E5 would probably cheaper than dual G5’s as you could sell your old hsi. Just a thought .

FlyQ EFB also has this recording functionality.

It’s still in use. 1 each standard “new guy” callsign. At least until the FNG does something funny, dumb, ridiculous, or “earns it” in another manner...

Alternator is not charging my battery
M016576 replied to Janat83's topic in Vintage Mooneys (pre-J models)
Whomever mounted that thing couldn’t be bothered to get 4 of the same type of hardware, that’s for sure! -
Just noticed that! I thought you were still in the Baron! Nice!

That’s per engine, right? So when you say 11gph, you’re actually burning 22? edit: wait a second- did I miss something? Are you flying a Bo now?

Thanks for this! I just ordered a PMA450B swap for my 8000BT- it’s been on my list for a while- and the price is very attractive.
