  1. Looking at the accident pics , the plane was upside down and in one piece , possibly a VMC rollover , truly amazing anyone survived at all .....sad..
  2. Even worse is the Cirrus Turbo is also 213 knots at 725 K .....
  3. Here is the skinny , if the unit is a 28 volt only , it will cost about 800 more to upgrade , above the 3500 .....They are all being supported , DO NOT buy a unit without a GARMIN tray , the Avidyne tray is not specified on the TSO and not technically legal for install this way.....Garmin no longer makes the trays and they are at a premium......Also even after the upgrade , the 28 volt units are still 28 volt only.....
  4. The reason Mooney keeps failing , is because they have never made a true four place aircraft , The Chinese are smart enough to realize this and are creating new types as we speak.....Perhaps had Mooney not went under a dozen or so times and been solvent enough to have kept the TBM type cert , they may have survived , OH WELL they did not , Fast forward , if you think that the Chinese cant improve the build quality of an aircraft that is built on the same tooling for the last 50 plus years , you need to wake up and smell the Coffee..... I love Mooneys , I love flying them , would I pay similar money for a new Mooney verses a New Bonanza or Cirrus or C206 or Piper Matrix...... NO FUCKIN WAY .....When you can put 4 adults , and four hours fuel in a new Mooney ,than maybe that will change.......Im sure this post will be very unpopular here , but it is what it is......
  5. Question , does the transponder transmit with enough power to be picked up that far offshore , or are they tracked on primary ......also , if there is a few minutes between sweeps (requests) it is entirely possible that the transponder didn't reply before it went down...
  6. The sea where this went down , is relatively shallow , 200 feet if I read it correctly , this FDR will be recovered , at least the families know the outcome , and don't have to speculate or have false hope....
  7. I am sure I am not diligent enough to be safer in a twin.... I just bought and sold a C-310 , have no interest in training or flying in it.....Still felt safer in the Mooney , than the Bonanza , but I think that is because I have much more time in Mooneys.....
  8. Probably worth more in parts.....I prefer to take em down , less liability , and less time to finish.....
  9. Ha Ha , I got a lot of that money , when I sold him his seats and interior parts....
  10. Actually , if the plane was landed gear up , and repaired by a factory service center , It can legally be a NDH plane......Pretty scary huh.....
  11. Time marches on , so does technology , shit or get off the pot....
  12. That's fresh water ladies , That one will be back on the market in a year or so.....new avionics , new gear doors , I have it on good authority that the men in the Canoe are Brent and Jerry !!!
  13. is this still for sale..
  14. I had my first door pop in the beech on Saturday , forgot to latch it , it didn't pop until after rotation , did a normal pattern but did not retract the wheels.....Noisy as hell , and my passenger was half frozen when we landed.....It is extremely distracting....
  15. About a hundred or so
  16. 2100 feet of grass while "doable" is not Ideal for a mooney , our gear doesn't "like grass" and the landings will have to be within 5 MPH of 75 mph or its going to be exciting to say the least..... and you cant stop it with the brakes if the grass is wet......Sounds like a great field for a 182 ....
  17. It looks like someone relieved themselves on the wing...
  18. Experience is always the best teacher....most machines have common points of failure.....
  19. When I did the cowl closure on my "B" I elected to install it with screws and rivnuts , I like being able to remove it if needed....
  20. Seth , last time I was in GAI , I was parked nest to that Phenom.....Scary stuff , I was so glad when I read the article that it wasn't a Mooney.....(yours)...
  21. I just want to mention that Smoketown is the only one I have ever seen with a "real" paint booth .... Also they have many employees so the turnaround is fast , I have used Jin Russell for smaller jobs , but elected to have Smoketown do the big job......
  22. It wont happen at Smoketown for 8 K , or Reese either.....My turnaround was about 5 weeks.....And I waited three months for a slot....
  23. I have a used correct spinner and backplate , Call me if interested , 856 419 5209...
  24. This broker sells aircraft , and has a stellar reputation...he also only moves better quality aircraft....
  25. As the system has just been replaced go with the basics first....Retorque all the induction hose clamps , and check for exhaust leaks...
